E-BooksCosmopolitan Communications Cultural Diversity in a Globalized World

Cosmopolitan Communications Cultural Diversity in a Globalized World
Pippa Norris, "Cosmopolitan Communications: Cultural Diversity in a Globalized World "
English | ISBN: 0521493684 | 2009 | 446 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Societies around the world have experienced a flood of information from diverse channels originating beyond local communities and even national borders, transmitted through the rapid expansion of cosmopolitan communications. For more than half a century, conventional interpretations, Norris and Inglehart argue, have commonly exaggerated the potential threats arising from this process. A series of fire-walls protect national cultures. This book develops a new theoretical framework for understanding cosmopolitan communications and uses it to identify the conditions under which global communications are most likely to endanger cultural diversity. The authors analyze empirical evidence from both the societal level and the individual level, examining the outlook and beliefs of people in a wide range of societies. The study draws on evidence from the World Values Survey, covering 90 societies in all major regions worldwide from 1981 to 2007. The conclusion considers the implications of their findings for cultural policies.

E-BooksThe Diversity of Emerging Capitalisms in Developing Countries

The Diversity of Emerging Capitalisms in Developing Countries
The Diversity of Emerging Capitalisms in Developing Countries: Globalization, Institutional Convergence and Experimentation by Eric Rougier, François Combarnous
English | PDF | 2017 | 467 Pages | ISBN : 3319499467 | 6.3 MB
This book presents the results of a collective and original empirical investigation of the institutional systems underlying the capitalisms that are coming to the fore in developing nations. While varieties of industrialized countries' capitalisms are extensively scrutinized, those of developing countries' capitalisms are far less documented. By implementing a unified and original comparative approach based on the institutional complementarity theory, the different contributions of the book find evidence for the originality and extreme heterogeneity of the forms of capitalism to be observed in developing countries. This text analyses capitalist systems as clusters of sectoral institutions and regulations, identifying differences in emerging and developing countries.

Culture, Diversity and Mental Health - Enhancing Clinical Practice
Masood Zangeneh, Alean Al-Krenawi, "Culture, Diversity and Mental Health - Enhancing Clinical Practice"
English | 2019 | pages: 335 | ISBN: 3030264351 | EPUB | 2,3 mb
This book discusses the importance of culture and diversity within society through multicultural, cross-cultural, and intercultural encounters while applying psychological effectiveness to manage core competencies. It carefully explains how influential the social environment is to an individual within a society. It seeks to directly affect mental health practitioners' treatment within practices in accordance to specific ethno-cultural clients; and it seeks to encourage students and practitioners to practice acceptance of diverse groups and multiracial communities. Although understanding various cultural norms and accepting diversity is not always simple, the book promotes a global understanding through identifying cultural benefits within a multiracial, multi-ethnic society, while evoking culturally competent techniques for mental health practitioners.

E-BooksSexuality and Gender Diversity Rights in Southeast Asia

Sexuality and Gender Diversity Rights in Southeast Asia
Anthony J Langlois, "Sexuality and Gender Diversity Rights in Southeast Asia "
English | ISBN: 1108927815 | 2022 | 75 pages | PDF | 1280 KB
Sexuality and gender diversity rights in Southeast Asia are deeply controversial and vigorously contested. Debate and protest have been accompanied by both legislative reform and discriminatory violence. These contradictory dynamics are occurring at a time when the international human rights regime has explicitly incorporated a focus on the prevention of violence and discrimination in relation to sexuality and gender diversity. This Element focusses on the need for such rights. This Element explores the burgeoning of civil society organisations engaged in an emancipatory politics inclusive of sexuality and gender diversity, utilising rights politics as a platform for visibility, contestation and mobilisation. This Element focusses on the articulation of political struggle through a shared set of rights claims, which in turn relates to shared experiences of violence and discrimination, and a visceral demand and hope for change.
