E-BooksAnalytic Hyperbolic Geometry and Albert Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity, 2nd Edition

Analytic Hyperbolic Geometry and Albert Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity, 2nd Edition
English | 2022 | ISBN: 9811244103 | 775 pages | True PDF EPUB | 25.12 MB
This book presents a powerful way to study Einstein's special theory of relativity and its underlying hyperbolic geometry in which analogies with classical results form the right tool. The premise of analogy as a study strategy is to make the unfamiliar familiar. Accordingly, this book introduces the notion of vectors into analytic hyperbolic geometry, where they are called gyrovectors. Gyrovectors turn out to be equivalence classes that add according to the gyroparallelogram law just as vectors are equivalence classes that add according to the parallelogram law. In the gyrolanguage of this book, accordingly, one prefixes a gyro to a classical term to mean the analogous term in hyperbolic geometry. As an example, the relativistic gyrotrigonometry of Einstein's special relativity is developed and employed to the study of the stellar aberration phenomenon in astronomy.Furthermore, the book presents, for the first time, the relativistic center of mass of an isolated system of noninteracting particles that coincided at some initial time t = 0. It turns out that the invariant mass of the relativistic center of mass of an expanding system (like galaxies) exceeds the sum of the masses of its constituent particles. This excess of mass suggests a viable mechanism for the formation of dark matter in the universe, which has not been detected but is needed to gravitationally 'glue' each galaxy in the universe. The discovery of the relativistic center of mass in this book thus demonstrates once again the usefulness of the study of Einstein's special theory of relativity in terms of its underlying hyperbolic geometry.

E-BooksHyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws The Theory of Classical and Nonclassical Shock Waves

Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws The Theory of Classical and Nonclassical Shock Waves
Philippe G. LeFloch, "Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws: The Theory of Classical and Nonclassical Shock Waves"
English | 2002 | pages: 300 | ISBN: 3764366877 | DJVU | 2,3 mb
This book examines the well-posedness theory for nonlinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws, recently completed by the author together with his collaborators. It covers the existence, uniqueness, and continuous dependence of classical entropy solutions. It also introduces the reader to the developing theory of nonclassical (undercompressive) entropy solutions. The systems of partial differential equations under consideration arise in many areas of continuum physics.

An Introduction to Calculus With Hyperbolic Functions, Limits, Derivatives, and More
English | 2021 | ISBN: B09J32YHZ3 | 181 pages | pdf | 1.15 MB
This introductory calculus book aims to introduce calculus to high school and college math enthusiasts. It starts with some basic concepts such as limits and ordinary derivatives, and then leads to some relatively more advanced concepts with an introduction to partial derivatives at the end of the book.

Numerical Approximation of Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws, 2nd Edition
Numerical Approximation of Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws
English | 2021 | ISBN: 1071613421 | 846 Pages | PDF EPUB | 48 MB
This monograph is devoted to the theory and approximation by finite volume methods of nonlinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws in one or two space variables. It follows directly a previous publication on hyperbolic systems of conservation laws by the same authors. Since the earlier work concentrated on the mathematical theory of multidimensional scalar conservation laws, this book will focus on systems and the theoretical aspects which are needed in the applications, such as the solution of the Riemann problem and further insights into more sophisticated problems, with special attention to the system of gas dynamics. This new edition includes more examples such as MHD and shallow water, with an insight on multiphase flows. Additionally, the text includes source terms and well-balanced/asymptotic preserving schemes, introducing relaxation schemes and addressing problems related to resonance and discontinuous fluxes while adding details on the low Mach number situation.
