Skill Formation Regimes in South Asia: A Comparative Study on the Path-Dependent Development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training for ... Series / Bibliothèque d'Études Comparatives) By Markus Maurer
2011 | 449 Pages | ISBN: 3631600208 | PDF | 4 MB
In the face of accelerated economic globalisation, many of the industries in economically less developed countries have become more technology-intensive. Skill formation processes, both inside and outside firms, are therefore changing. This study scrutinises such transformations by comparing - from the perspective of historical institutionalism - the skill formation regimes of the garment industries in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. It sheds light on the differences between the trajectories of the in-firm skill formation regimes of the two countries, and reveals the important part that varying paths of educational development in both countries have played in shaping these trajectories. At the same time, the study shows how, in both countries, state-led skill formation regimes have been transformed not only by market forces and the growing importance of corporate business interests, but also by the social demand for educational credentials.

Electrochemical Phase Formation and Growth: An Introduction to the Initial Stages of Metal Deposition By Prof. Dr. E. Budevski, Prof. Dr. G. Staikov, Prof. Dr. W. J. Lorenz(auth.)
1996 | 414 Pages | ISBN: 3527294228 | PDF | 16 MB
Electrochemical processes and methods are basic to many important scientific disciplines, materials science and nanotechnology being only two keywords. For the first time in more than twenty years this volume presents a critical survey of the foundations, methodology and applications of electrochemical phase formation and growth processes. Written by a team of three internationally renowned authors, it is an invaluable source of information for all scientists concerned with electrocrystallization of metals or the in-situ characterization of electron-conducting surfaces. Not only the numerous illustrations (partly in colour) but also the vast number of references covering the literature up to and including 1995 make this volume indispensable for every laboratory working in electrochemical or materials science. Content: Chapter 1 Fundamentals of Electro?crystallization of Metals (pages 1-7): Chapter 2 Crystalline Metal Surfaces (pages 9-39): Chapter 3 Underpotential Deposition of Metals ? 2D Phases (pages 41-148): Chapter 4 Initial Stages of Bulk Phase Formation (pages 149-199): Chapter 5 Growth of Crystalline Faces (pages 201-261): Chapter 6 Metal Deposits and Surface Structuring and Modification (pages 263-313): Chapter 7 Outlook (page 315): Chapter 8 Appendices (pages 317-342):

Physics of Star Formation in Galaxies: Saas-Fee Advanced Course 29 Lecture Notes 1999 Swiss Society for Astrophysics and Astronomy By Francesco Palla, Hans Zinnecker (auth.), André Maeder, Georges Meynet (eds.)
2002 | 232 Pages | ISBN: 3540431020 | PDF | 6 MB
The book begins with a historical introduction, "Star Formation: The Early History", that presents new material of interest for students and historians of science. This is followed by two long articles on "Pre-Main-Sequence Evolution of Stars and Young Clusters" and "Observations of Young Stellar Objects". These articles on the fascinating problem of star formation from interstellar matter give a thorough overview of present-day theories and observations. The articles contain material so far unpublished in the astronomical literature. The book addresses graduate students and can be used as a textbook for advanced courses in stellar astrophysics.

Galaxies: Interactions and Induced Star Formation By Professor R. C. Kennicutt Jr., Professor F. Schweizer, Professor J. E. Barnes (auth.), Dr. D. Friedli, Professor L. Martinet, Dr. D. Pfenniger (eds.)
1998 | 405 Pages | ISBN: 3540635696 | PDF | 14 MB
This volume contains the written versions of the lectures given at the 26th course of the renowned Saas-Fee series. The book represents a comprehensive and up-to-date review of the field of galaxy interaction. Nowadays, galaxies are no longer seen as immutable objects: they evolve, interact, merge, blaze, and reshape. Dynamic forces can induce powerful stellar activity able to transform the matter composition and morphology of galaxies. The lectures included in this book aim at a better understanding of these remarkable and fascinating phenomena. Though the book is intended for graduate students and young post-docs in astrophysics, it contains more advanced and original material, as well as historical perspectives, which will be of great interest to experts and astronomy teachers also.
