E-BooksThe Comparative Politics of Education Teachers Unions and Education Systems around the World

The Comparative Politics of Education Teachers Unions and Education Systems around the World
Terry M. Moe, "The Comparative Politics of Education: Teachers Unions and Education Systems around the World "
English | ISBN: 1107168880 | 2016 | 372 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Public education is critically important to the human capital, social well-being, and economic prosperity of nations. It is also an intensely political realm of public policy that is heavily shaped by power and special interests. Yet political scientists rarely study education, and education researchers rarely study politics. This volume attempts to change that by promoting the development of a coherent, thriving field on the comparative politics of education. As an opening wedge, the authors carry out an 11-nation comparative study of the political role of teachers unions, showing that as education systems everywhere became institutionalized, teachers unions pursued their interests by becoming well-organized, politically active, highly influential - and during the modern era, the main opponents of neoliberal reform. Across diverse nations, the commonalities are striking. The challenge going forward is to expand on this study's scope, theory, and evidence to bring education into the heart of comparative politics.

E-BooksA progressive education How childhood changed in mid-twentieth-century English and Welsh schools

A progressive education How childhood changed in mid-twentieth-century English and Welsh schools
A progressive education?: How childhood changed in mid-twentieth-century English and Welsh schools (Political Ethnography) by Laura Tisdall
September 30, 2019 | ISBN: 1526132893 | English | 296 pages | PDF | 1.5 MB
A Progressive Education? argues that ideas about both childhood and adolescence were transformed in English and Welsh schools after WWII. Covering the period 1918 to 1979, this book shows that by putting childhood at the centre of the history of education, we can challenge the stories we tell about how and why schooling itself changed. It has been suggested that the dominance of 'progressive' education after 1945 led to a backlash against permissive attitudes to pupils in both Western Europe and the United States. But British child-centred education, in alliance with developmental psychology, actually shaped a more restrictive and pessimistic image of childhood. Drawing on an extensive range of sources that illuminate teaching practice, from school logbooks to oral histories, this book will be crucial not only for historians and sociologists of modern Britain, but for education professionals and policy-makers.

E-BooksSustainable and Democratic Education

Sustainable and Democratic Education
Sustainable and Democratic Education by Sarah Chave
English | Dec 21, 2020 | ISBN: 0367151022 | 210 pages | PDF | 2 MB
In a world struggling with environmental and social problems resistant to current solutions, education needs to explore ways to 'enlarge the space of the possible' rather than only 'replicate the existing possible'. To respond to this challenge, this book troubles dominant Western philosophical conceptions which continue to have wide-ranging influence in education worldwide and which limit more sustainable ways to be in the world together. It argues for the importance of opening spaces in and through which unique subjects can emerge, bringing potential for new ways of being and as yet unimagined futures.

Entrepreneurship Skill Building: Focusing Entrepreneurship Education on Skills Assessment and Development
English | 2021 | ISBN: 303077919X | 190 Pages | PDF EPUB | 15 MB
This book explores the sea change in thinking about how to educate students of entrepreneurship, uses extant theory to develop a conceptual model of entrepreneurship skill development, describes an assessment tool for operationalizing this model, discusses how this tool can be utilized to develop entrepreneurship skills, and offers examples from the application of our approach in educational settings. It concludes with implications of this methodology for furthering both entrepreneurship education and the research that shapes it. The authors present an entrepreneurship skills assessment tool, which uses a theory of measurement that breaks from psychometrics (predictive approaches) and honors the volatility and uncertainty that characterizes entrepreneurship. This assessment tool can be used to integrate curriculum and co-curricular activities to ensure skill development. Focusing on a methodology for the measurement and development of entrepreneurship skills, this book will serve as a valuable resource to researchers and students alike.
