English | ISBN: 1443862185 | 2014 | 470 pages | PDF | 9 MB
As humans we have stewardship over the environment. Man's dominion does not mean a license to abuse, spoil, squander or destroy. Future cultures will be able to reach their potential only if this generation remembers that sustainable land use is a combination of economics, ecology and social justice. Our ancestors survived due to an innate sense of "oneness" whereby they helped each other. For them everything was "holy". Sustaining desired ecological, economic, and social conditions in the system is a big challenge, but not an impossible task. This book presents chapters by scientists from different disciplines from the Mediterranean Basin and its environs. It presents updated information and highlights the way forward for the fields of economy, environment and ecology, making this book a very useful source for people working in these different disciplines. Contributions have been prepared by experts in these respective fields. The book also brings to the fore important future tasks for these particular disciplines, and provides up-to-date references, tables and figures illustrating research findings. As such, this volume is a must-read for students, researchers and professionals in environmental sciences, ecology, forestry, geography and other related fields.

E-BooksThe philosophy of social ecology

The philosophy of social ecology
Free Download The philosophy of social ecology By Murray Bookchin
1996 | 106 Pages | ISBN: 155164018X | PDF | 8 MB
"There is nothing more natural than humanity's capacity to conceptualize, generalize, relate ideas, engage in symbolic communication, and innovate changes in the world around it, not merely to adapt to the conditions it finds at hand." (p. 119)

In a broad sense this book represents the culmination of an attempt to create a new philosophy of nature, that repudiates anti-rationalist tendencies, is humanistic, and embodies the best of the left's revolutionary tradition: social ecology.Honestly speaking, this is Murray Bookchin's most pompously written and most difficult to follow writing. The essays in this book were written independently (I think), and patched together as a book, so they are really hit and miss, and the chapter "Towards of Philosophy of Nature" being among the most tedious, and pointless of them all, while the introduction*-being a synthesis of all the content-is the clearest, and most coherent version of the arguments found in this book.

The reader can expect a good explanation of what dialectical naturalism is, the distinction between "first nature" and "second nature" are better laid bare than anywhere else, and the particularities of Murray's "dialectic reason" are explored quite thoroughly-again, quite tediously.

Overall, while many passages are enlightening, others are the exact opposite. This book has done nothing but make me raise more questions about social ecology than it helped answer. And I am not talking about the good kind of questions that push the use of a theory to unexpected situations, but rather the kinds of questions that question the very foundational principles of social ecology.

E-BooksThe Ecology of Sandy Shores

The Ecology of Sandy Shores
Free Download The Ecology of Sandy Shores By Anton McLachlan and Omar Defeo
2018 | 572 Pages | ISBN: 0128094672 | PDF | 36 MB
The Ecology of Sandy Shores, Third Edition, provides both a holistic and conceptual introduction for beginners, while also presenting an in-depth and cutting-edge analysis for researchers interested in sandy shores. This new edition focuses on resource use, and has also been updated to include recent findings, enhanced illustrations, and additional coverage on beach fisheries and global/climate change. In addition, this release presents insights on food webs, greater coverage on global biodiversity patterns in sandy beaches, and new insights on population patterns, behavior and threats.Research on beaches is difficult because of the dynamic nature of the environment. There is no other book covering the ecology of sandy beaches, despite the extent and economic importance of these systems. This book is designed to both provide the conceptual basis to introduce students to the basic principles of sandy shore ecology and to serve as a ready reference for doctoral students and researches working on these systems. It can also serve as a handbook for land and coastal managers.
