The whole region of the Middle East is beset with a structural crisis of which particular crises confronting the component countries happen to be merely subsets. The real questions revolve round the issue of how long can the present dispensations of power and social structures in the region forged in the twentieth century (first half or second) can last in the twenty-first, when they no longer reflect the realities on the ground.

Looking East A Changing Middle East Realigns with a Rising Asia
Free Download Looking East: A Changing Middle East Realigns with a Rising Asia By Shirzad Azad
2020 | 160 Pages | ISBN: 162894434X | PDF | 1 MB
Major Mideast nations are looking east, showing an accelerating tendency to forge closer ties with the quickly rising Asia. This may represent a different sort of geo-magnetic reversal, as this time the poles flip from West to East, with potentially the same shocking reverberations of a North-South polar reversal. This work reviews the "Look East" approach that Iran, Israel, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Egypt have pursued in recent decades. The work concentrates largely on the critical contemporary aspects, while providing some references to important historical developments for context. With a doctorate in Political Science and International Relations, Shirzad Azad has studied and worked in East Asia for close to a decade, including five years in South Korea (ROK).He has published a series of scholarly books in English, including Koreans in the Persian Gulf: Policies and International Relations (Routledge, 2015), and several other academic studies with a special focus on Iran-East Asia relations.

E-BooksThe Struggle for Supremacy in the Middle East Saudi Arabia and Iran

The Struggle for Supremacy in the Middle East Saudi Arabia and Iran
Free Download The Struggle for Supremacy in the Middle East: Saudi Arabia and Iran
English | 2023 | ISBN: 1108473369 | 310 Pages | PDF | 1.4 MB
Since 1979, few rivalries have affected Middle Eastern politics as much as the rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran. However, too often the rivalry has been framed purely in terms of 'proxy wars', sectarian difference or the associated conflicts that have broken out in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Bahrain, and Yemen. In this book, Simon Mabon presents a more nuanced assessment of the rivalry, outlining its history and demonstrating its impact across the Middle East. Highlighting the significance of local groups, Mabon shows how regional politics have shaped and been shaped by the rivalry. The book draws from social theory and the work of Pierre Bourdieu to challenge problematic assumptions about 'proxy wars', the role of religion, and sectarianism. Exploring the changing political landscape of the Middle East as a whole and the implications for regional and international security, Mabon paints a complex picture of this frequently discussed but oft-misunderstood rivalry.

Sikhs in the Deccan and North-East India
Free Download Sikhs in the Deccan and North-East India By Birinder Pal Singh
2018 | 239 Pages | ISBN: 1138096369 | PDF | 21 MB
This book is a major intervention in the understanding of the dynamics of internal migration in South Asia. It traces the historical roots of certain migrant Sikh communities to the south and north-east India; chronicles their social, religious and economic practices; and examines peculiar identity formations. This first-of-its-kind empirical study examines the socio-economic conditions of Sikhs in the Deccan and the North-East who are believed to be the descendants of the soldiers in Maharaja Ranjit Singh's army despatched to the two regions in the early nineteenth century. It draws on extensive ethnographic accounts to present the social realities of the different communities, including language, religion, culture, occupation, caste, marriage and kinship, and agency. It also questions the idea of Sikh homogeneity that many within the community have come to believe in, while revealing both differences and similarities. The book will be of great interest to scholars and researchers of sociology and social anthropology, migration and diaspora studies, religion, especially Sikh studies, cultural studies, as well as the Sikh diaspora worldwide.

The unlikely beginnings of the East India Company-from Tudor origins and rivalry with the superior Dutch-to laying the groundwork for future British expansion. The East India Company was the largest commercial enterprise in British history, yet its roots in Tudor England are often overlooked. The Tudor revolution in commerce led ambitious merchants to search for new forms of investment, not least in risky overseas enterprises-and for these "adventurers" the most profitable bet of all would be on the Company.

E-BooksTransforming Empire in Japan and East Asia The Taiwan Expedition and the Birth of Japanese Imperialism

Transforming Empire in Japan and East Asia The Taiwan Expedition and the Birth of Japanese Imperialism
Free Download Robert Eskildsen, "Transforming Empire in Japan and East Asia: The Taiwan Expedition and the Birth of Japanese Imperialism"
English | 2019 | pages: 391 | ISBN: 981133479X | PDF | 4,6 mb
This book examines the history of a military expedition the Japanese government sent to southern Taiwan in 1874, in the context of Japan's subordination to Western powers in the unequal treaty system in East Asia. It argues that events on the ground in Taiwan show the Japanese government intended to establish colonies in southern and eastern Taiwan, and justified its colonial intent based on the argument that a state must spread civilization and political authority to territories where it claimed sovereignty, thereby challenging Chinese authority in East Asia and consolidating its power domestically. The book considers the history of the Taiwan Expedition in the light of how Japanese imperialism began: it emerged as part of the process of consolidating government power after the Meiji Restoration, it derived from Western imperialism, it developed in a dynamic relationship with Western imperialism and it increased Japan's leverage in its competition for influence in East Asia.
