E-BooksPrinciples and Applications of Dimensional Analysis and Similarity

Principles and Applications of Dimensional Analysis and Similarity
English | 2021 | ISBN: 3030792161 | 447 pages | pdf, epub | 53.74 MB
The book provides a summary of the historical evolution of dimensional analysis, and frames the problem of dimensions, systems of units and similarity in a vision dominated by the conventions that formalise even the exact sciences. The first four chapters address the definitions, with few dimensional analysis theorems and similarity criteria. There is also the analysis of self-similarity, both of first and second kind, with a couple of completely solved problems, framed within the group theory. From chapter 5 onward, the focus is on applications in some of the engineering sectors. The number of topics is necessarily limited, but, almost always, there are details, calculations and treatment of assumptions. The book contains descriptions of some of the experimental apparatuses currently used for the realisation of physical models, such as the wind tunnel, the shaking table, the centrifuge, and with the exclusion of many others, which can be found in specialist monographies. Measurement techniques and instrumentation and statistical data processing is also available in other books.

Geometry in Our Three-Dimensional World (Problem Solving in Mathematics and Beyond)
English | 2022 | ISBN: 9811237107 | 441 pages | True PDF EPUB | 31.86 MB
The book presents a comprehensive overview of various aspects of three-dimensional geometry that can be experienced on a daily basis. By covering the wide range of topics - from the psychology of spatial perception to the principles of 3D modelling and printing, from the invention of perspective by Renaissance artists to the art of Origami, from polyhedral shapes to the theory of knots, from patterns in space to the problem of optimal packing, and from the problems of cartography to the geometry of solar and lunar eclipses - this book provides deep insight into phenomena related to the geometry of space and exposes incredible nuances that can enrich our lives. The book is aimed at the general readership and provides more than 420 color illustrations that support the explanations and replace formal mathematical arguments with clear graphical representations.

E-BooksMolecular Interactions on Two-Dimensional Materials

Molecular Interactions on Two-Dimensional Materials
English | 2021 | ISBN: 9811247846 | 448 pages | True PDF | 52.39 MB
This book is for senior undergraduates, graduate students and researchers interested in understanding the physical and chemical interactions of organic semiconductors on emergent two-dimensional (2D) materials. Molecular electronics has come of age, and there is now a pressing need to understand molecule-2D material heterointerfaces at the nanoscale. The purpose of this book is to present a coherent coverage of these heterointerfaces for next generation molecular memories, switches, bio-sensors and magnetic quantum devices. In this interdisciplinary collection, advances in the application of scanning probe and high-resolution synchrotron techniques are illustrated.

E-BooksInvariants And Pictures Low-dimensional Topology And Combinatorial Group Theory

Invariants And Pictures Low-dimensional Topology And Combinatorial Group Theory
English | 2020 | ISBN: 9811220115 | 387 pages | True PDF | 9.41 MB
This book contains an in-depth overview of the current state of the recently emerged and rapidly growing theory of Gnk groups, picture-valued invariants, and braids for arbitrary manifolds. Equivalence relations arising in low-dimensional topology and combinatorial group theory inevitably lead to the study of invariants, and good invariants should be strong and apparent. An interesting case of such invariants is picture-valued invariants, whose values are not algebraic objects, but geometrical constructions, like graphs or polyhedra. In 2015, V O Manturov defined a two-parametric family of groups Gnk and formulated the following principle: if dynamical systems describing a motion of n particles possess a nice codimension 1 property governed by exactly k particles then these dynamical systems possess topological invariants valued in Gnk.The book is devoted to various realisations and generalisations of this principle in the broad sense. The groups Gnk have many epimorphisms onto free products of cyclic groups; hence, invariants constructed from them are powerful enough and easy to compare. However, this construction does not work when we try to deal with points on a 2-surface, since there may be infinitely many geodesics passing through two points. That leads to the notion of another family of groups - Γnk, which give rise to braids on arbitrary manifolds yielding invariants of arbitrary manifolds.
