Rethinking Identity Fusion presents a critique of Identity Fusion Theory, an identity-based social psychological approach to understanding pro-group extremism. It scrutinises the theory's main theoretical claims and research methods, exposing serious inconsistencies and gaps in how the theory handles the concept of identity and in its research programme. The book demonstrates the flattening of the theory's main concept, "identity fusion", and the general state of confusion in the recent literature as to the theory's claims and predictions.

Now that Ottawa has left health care to the provinces, what is the future for Canadian health care in a decentralized federal context? Is the Canada Health Act dead? Health Care Federalism in Canada provides a multi-perspective, interdisciplinary analysis of a critical juncture in Canadian public policy and the contributing factors which have led to this point. Social scientists, legal scholars, health services researchers, and decision-makers examine the shift from a system where Ottawa has played a significant, sometimes controversial role, to one where provinces have more ability to push health care design in new directions. Will this change inspire innovation and collaboration, or inequality and confusion? Providing an up-to-date analysis of health care policy and intergovernmental relations at a crucial time, Health Care Federalism in Canada will be of interest to anyone concerned with the current dynamics and future potential of Canadian health care. Contributors include Greg Marchildon (Canada Research Chair at the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy in Saskatchewan), Ken Boessenkool (public affairs strategist and former political advisor to Stephen Harper), Adrian Levy (Professor and Head, Department of Community Health and Epidemiology at Dalhousie University), Boris Sobolev (Canada Research Chair at the School of Public and Population Health, University of British Columbia), Gail Tomblin Murphy (Director, WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Workforce Planning and Research), and David Haardt (Department of Economics, Dalhousie University).

First Published in 2017. In this volume, the editor collected articles that primarily appeared in the "Scientific Solutions" section of New Solutions, A Journal of Environmental and Occupational Health Policy. The articles in the book are grouped into three general categories, starting with Critical Science. These articles are primarily critiques of "how science is done" or how science is incorporated into public health policy in the United States and elsewhere. The second category is what I have called Precautionary Science. These articles, such as the ones by Dement on asbestos and Solomon, and colleagues on the risks of manganese, essentially call for precautionary regulations to reduce exposures where there is substantial but, in the eyes of some, less than definitive scientific knowledge. The final category is Solutions Science. In some ways, this represents the current stage of precautionary science, where we have begun to look at larger societal issues and have moved beyond traditional scientific approaches and critiques.

If it is true that when we use a name, it must be the name of something, what is it that we name when we use terms such as Sherlock Holmes, Odysseus, and many of the same type? What is it we are addressing and how do the referential relations work assuming that we are thinking or talking about something when we use these terms? Otherwise, if we are speaking about nothing when we use a fictional name, how do we understand the linguistic process which gives us the impression of speaking about something? This book develops a critical study of some theories which deny any ontological existence to fictional characters. It provides an analysis of the contribution of these terms to the meaning of the sentences in which they are used and on the structure of thoughts adopted in assertions about fictional characters.

This book houses contemporary theoretical and empirical studies by emergent researchers and scholars in the disciplines of ELT, Applied Linguistics and TESOL who address several newly-emerged and emerging issues in the field from their own contexts (predominantly Asian settings). Each chapter, in its own unique way, challenges, unpacks and critiques existing misconceptions and pre-conceived assumptions of the use, learning and teaching of English in today's fluid and globalised, postmodern era. While some contributors to the book have brought such issues to the forefront through a critical consideration of histories and policies, others have explored how English is enacted, practised, learned, and/or taught across a wide range of settings in order to further illustrate the various manifestations of the worldwide expansion of the language. Together the chapters of this book highlight the current discrepancies and inconsistencies in different areas of interest in the field of ELT, and provide carefully considered suggestions on how to address these issues.

This volume represents the first exploration of caste in the field of curriculum studies, challenging the ongoing silence around the issue of caste in education and curriculum theory. Presenting comprehensive critical examination of caste as a category of domination and oppression in the colonial power matrix, chapters confront Eurocentric educational epistemologies which deny the existence and influence of caste. The book examines the impact of such silence in educational policy, praxis, and curriculum, and draws from leading scholars to illustrate the fluidity of power and oppression in the caste system. By challenging historical, cultural, and institutional origins of caste and foregrounding perspectives from outside Western epistemological frameworks, the book pioneers a critical approach to integrating caste in educational debate to interrupt social and cognitive injustices. In so doing so, the volume advocates for an alternative, non-derivative curriculum reason, through an itinerant curriculum theory as a path toward the emergence of a critical Dalit educational theory. As such, it makes a vital contribution for scholars and researchers looking to refine and enhance their knowledge of curriculum studies by highlighting the importance of theorizing caste in the role of education.
