E-BooksSearching Paul Conversations with the Jewish Apostle to the Nations. Collected Essays

Searching Paul Conversations with the Jewish Apostle to the Nations. Collected Essays
Kathy Ehrensperger, "Searching Paul: Conversations with the Jewish Apostle to the Nations. Collected Essays"
English | 2019 | pages: 470 | ISBN: 3161555015 | PDF | 4,8 mb
Firmly rooted in his ancestral Jewish traditions, Paul interacted with, and was involved in vivid communication primarily with non-Jews, who through Christ were associated with the one God of Israel. In the highly diverse cultural, linguistic, social, and political world of the Roman Empire, Paul's activities are seen as those of a cultural translator embedded in his own social and symbolic world and simultaneously conversant with the diverse, mainly Greek and Roman world, of the non-Jewish nations. In this role he negotiates the Jewish message of the Christ event into the particular everyday life of his addressees. Informed by socio-historical research, cultural studies, and gender studies Kathy Ehrensperger explores in her collection of essays aspects of this process based on the hermeneutical presupposition that the Pauline texts are rooted in the social particularities of everyday life of the people involved in the Christ-movement, and that his theologizing has to be understood from within this context.

E-BooksVirginia Woolf's Unwritten Histories Conversations with the Nineteenth Century

Virginia Woolf's Unwritten Histories Conversations with the Nineteenth Century
Virginia Woolf's Unwritten Histories: Conversations with the Nineteenth Century By Anne Besnault
2021 | 288 Pages | ISBN: 0367354969 | PDF | 20 MB
Virginia Woolf's Unwritten Histories explores the interrelatedness of Woolf's modernism, feminism, and her understanding of history as a site of knowledge and a writing practice that enabled her to negotiate her heritage, to find her place among the moderns as a female artist and intellectual, and to elaborate her poetics of the "new": not as radical rupture but as the result of a process of unwriting and rewriting "traditional" historiographical orthodoxies. Its central argument is that unless we comprehend the genealogy of Woolf's historical thought and the complexity of its lineage, we cannot fully grasp the innovative thrust of her attempt to "think back through our mothers." Bringing together canonical texts such as Orlando (1928), A Room of One's Own (1929), Three Guineas (1938) or Between the Acts (1941) and under-researched ones ― among which stand Woolf's essays on historians and reviews of history books and her pieces on literary history and nineteenth-century women's literature ― this book argues that Woolf's textual "conversations" with nineteenth-century writers, historians and critics, many of which remain unexplored, are interwoven with her historiographical poeisis and constitute the groundwork for her alternative histories and literary histories: "unwritten," open-textured, unacademic and polemical counter-narratives that keep track of the past and engage politically with the future.

E-BooksNecessary Conversations Between Adult Children And Their Aging Parents

Necessary Conversations Between Adult Children And Their Aging Parents
Gerald Kaufman, "Necessary Conversations: Between Adult Children And Their Aging Parents"
English | ISBN: 1561487988 | 2013 | 225 pages | EPUB | 1075 KB
In this timely book, family counselors Gerald and Marlene Kaufman urge adult children and their parents to have direct conversations about the decisions that lie ahead as parents age. The Kaufmans suggest that families use their parents' retirement as the benchmark for having the first discussion about their parents' plans for the next phase of their lives. The Kaufmans point out that most families wait until they're faced with a crisis before having these conversations. The big questions facing aging adults are: 1. Where should they live as they become less able to care for a property? 2. How will they manage their finances so that they are as prepared as possible to meet their needs as they age? Are they ready to invite one or more of their children to become their partners in making financial decisions? 3. Are they ready to invite one or more of their children to become their partners in making their medical decisions? 4. How can parents and children work together in determining when it's no longer safe or wise for the parents to drive? 5. What end-of-life decisions should parents be prepared to make? What is the best way to have those discussions? Necessary Conversations is filled with stories and examples from many families, most with different life circumstances, but all facing these same issues. The chapters end with "Getting Started," a list of suggestions for action, as well as "Questions" for focusing on practical outcomes to the discussions. The book includes a series of exhibits-from a "Needs Assessment for Caregivers" to a "Medications and Supplements List" to a "Driving Contract and Checklist." A thoughtful and useful guide to a life stage that's often dreaded and muddled through. Gerald W. Kaufman and L. Marlene Kaufman have been family counselors for nearly 40 years. This book grew out of a seminar they were asked to lead with their adult daughter and her husband.
