E-BooksIdentity Construction and Illness Narratives in Persons with Disabilities

Identity Construction and Illness Narratives in Persons with Disabilities
Free Download Identity Construction and Illness Narratives in Persons with Disabilities (Interdisciplinary Disability Studies) by Chalotte Glintborg, Manuel L. de la Mata
2021 | ISBN: 0367898713, 0367539039 | English | 154 pages | PDF | 2.7 MB
This book investigates how being diagnosed with various disabilities impacts on identity. Once diagnosed with a disability, there is a risk that this label can become the primary status both for the person diagnosed as well as for their family. This reification of the diagnosis can be oppressive because it subjugates humanity in such a way that everything a person does can be interpreted as linked to their disability.

Language Test Construction and Evaluation
J. Charles Alderson, "Language Test Construction and Evaluation "
English | ISBN: 0521478294 | | 324 pages | PDF | 43 MB
Language Test Construction and Evaluation describes the process of language test construction clearly and comprehensively. Each chapter deals with one stage of the test construction process; from drafting initial test specifications, to reporting test scores, test validation and washback. In addition, current practice in the examining of English as a Foreign Language by different examining boards is reviewed in order to compare testing principles with present test practice. The focus is on the practical: it does not assume a statistical background but explains and demystifies the procedures and concepts that are relevant to the construction and evaluation of language tests. Language Test Construction and Evaluation will provide an invaluable reference for anyone who wishes to understand how language tests are, and should be, constructed.

E-BooksGhosts and Shadows Construction of Identity and Community in an African Diaspora

Ghosts and Shadows Construction of Identity and Community in an African Diaspora
Ghosts and Shadows: Construction of Identity and Community in an African Diaspora By Atsuko Matsuoka and John Sorenson
2001 | 256 Pages | ISBN: 0802047866 | PDF | 14 MB
Focusing on African diaspora groups that have been virtually ignored in discussions of Canadian multiculturalism - Eritreans, Ethiopians, and Oromos - Ghosts and Shadows explores the re-creation of communities in exile and the invisible forces that haunt them through myths of 'homeland' and 'return.'Drawing on over a decade of work with refugee and immigrant groups in Canada, Atsuko Matsuoka and John Sorenson provide an analysis of the historical context that has created diaspora movements from the Horn of Africa. They examine contested understandings of Eritrea's thirty-year nationalist struggle, Ethiopian reactions to independence, and ongoing efforts to forge a distinct Oromo identity. The authors also discuss the role of long-distance nationalists in the 1998-2000 Eritrean-Ethiopian war. This study traces the spectral commitments to conflicting narratives of history and identity that affect settlement experiences of Eritrean, Ethiopian, and Oromo communities in Canada, and shows how the commitments of these exile groups still play important roles in nationalist struggles in their original homelands. Applying the concepts of 'ghosts and shadows' to question the supposed certainties of culture, history, memory, nation, gender, and 'race,' Matsuoka and Sorenson explore the conflicting creation of de-territorialized identities against the presumption of deep-rooted cultural continuities. A significant contribution to historical and globalized dimensions of nationalism, this work poses important challenges to dominant interpretations of transnational movements by focusing on the involvement of refugees and immigrants in nationalist struggles for distant homelands. By capturing these 'ghostly' and 'shadowy' aspects of lived experience, the book provides essential reading in the fields of anthropology, sociology, social work, and political studies.

The Reign of Law Marbury v. Madison and the Construction of America
The Reign of Law: Marbury v. Madison and the Construction of America By Professor Paul W. Kahn, Paul W. Kahn
2002 | 320 Pages | ISBN: 0300083920 | PDF | 19 MB
"A brilliantly innovative and provocative work of pathfinding dimensions."-Robert M. Ireland, Journal of the Early Republic "No scholar of the American constitution or American history can afford not to read this book-at least twice."-Herbert A. Johnson, Law and History Review "Kahn is clearly a scholar of great intelligence and creativity."-Scott D. Gerber, Journal of American History In this ground-breaking book, Kahn uses modern cultural theory to investigate America's most profound political myth: the belief that the rule of law is rule by the people. Kahn explores the elements of the myth, the rhetoric of law that sustains the myth, and the world of meaning the myth creates. He shows us that law must be central to religious, anthropological, and philosophical studies of American life.
