Secure Multi-Party Computation Against Passive Adversaries
Secure Multi-Party Computation Against Passive Adversaries
English | 2022 | ISBN: 3031121635 | 238 Pages | PDF (True) | 12 MB
This book focuses on multi-party computation (MPC) protocols in the passive corruption model (also known as the semi-honest or honest-but-curious model). The authorspresent seminal possibility and feasibility results in this model and includes formalsecurity proofs. Even though the passive corruption model may seem very weak, achieving security against such a benign form of adversary turns out to be non-trivialand demands sophisticated and highly advanced techniques. MPC is a fundamentalconcept, both in cryptography as well as distributed computing. On a very high level, an MPC protocol allows a set of mutually-distrusting parties with their privateinputs to jointly and securely perform any computation on their inputs. Examples ofsuch computation include, but not limited to, privacy-preserving data mining; securee-auction; private set-intersection; and privacy-preserving machine learning. MPCprotocols emulate the role of an imaginary, centralized trusted third party (TTP) thatcollects the inputs of the parties, performs the desired computation, and publishes theresult. Due to its powerful abstraction, the MPC problem has been widely studied overthe last four decades.

E-BooksA Mathematical Structure for Emergent Computation

A Mathematical Structure for Emergent Computation
A Mathematical Structure for Emergent Computation by Victor Korotkich
English | PDF | 1999 | 177 Pages | ISBN : 0792360109 | 11.3 MB
An understanding of emergent computation requires a profound revision of the most fundamental ideas. A noticeable attempt of such a rethinking is a world view in which natural systems are seen not as separate entities but as integrated parts of a unified whole. The book for the first time presents such a mathematical structure, which remarkably is based on integers as the single concept. As integers are considered to be the most fundamental entities irreducible to something simpler, this makes the mathematical structure a final theory, and thus we do not have to look for its explanation in terms of deeper concepts. The book is not only applicable to models of computation and optimization but also has scientific consequences, as it contributes to a rethinking of the most fundamental ideas about nature.

Introducing Computation to Neuroscience
Introducing Computation to Neuroscience: Selected Papers of George Gerstein
English | 2023 | ISBN: 303087446X | 555 Pages | PDF (True) | 71 MB
This book brings together a selection of papers by George Gerstein, representing his long-term endeavor of making neuroscience into a more rigorous science inspired by physics, where he had his roots. Professor Gerstein was many years ahead of the field, consistently striving for quantitative analyses, mechanistic models, and conceptual clarity. In doing so, he pioneered Computational Neuroscience, many years before the term itself was born. The overarching goal of George Gerstein's research was to understand the functional organization of neuronal networks in the brain. The editors of this book have compiled a selection of George Gerstein's many seminal contributions to neuroscience-be they experimental, theoretical or computational-into a single, comprehensive volume .The aim is to provide readers with a fresh introduction of these various concepts in the original literature. The volume is organized in a series of chapters by subject, ordered in time, each one containing one or more of George Gerstein's papers.
