Four sites in Roxburghshire are included because of their proximity to the Northumberland border. PART 2 identifies 123 "sites" with the aim of enabling the reader to know exactly what they are looking for and where exactly to look: there is a site index. In alphabetical order and divided into County Durham, Northumberland and The Borders (Roxburghshire), each entry is: Star rated to indicate the quality of what there is to see and how easy it is to find. Ray Kiely, "The Conservative Challenge to Globalization: Anglo-American Perspectives"

Ray Kiely examines the conservative discourse of "winners" and "losers" of globalization that has emerged since the financial crisis and which has been used to reflect real and imagined threats to domestic economies and national identity. Both the election of Donald Trump and the UK's Brexit vote are potent examples of the success of this conservative (anti-)globalization rhetoric, which has informed popular mantras of deregulation and economic nationalism.

Winters in the World is a beautifully observed journey through the cycle of the year in Anglo-Saxon England, exploring the festivals, customs and traditions linked to the different seasons. Drawing on a wide variety of source material, including poetry, histories and religious literature, Eleanor Parker investigates how Anglo-Saxons felt about the annual passing of the seasons and the profound relationship they saw between human life and the rhythms of nature.
Many of the festivals we celebrate in Britain today have their roots in the Anglo-Saxon period, and this book traces their surprising history, as well as unearthing traditions now long forgotten. It celebrates some of the finest treasures of medieval literature and provides an imaginative connection to the Anglo-Saxon world.

Valerie Anderson, "Race and Power in British India: Anglo-Indians, Class and Identity in the Nineteenth Century "
English | ISBN: 1780768796 | 2015 | 344 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
By the nineteenth century the British had ruled India for over a hundred years, and had consolidated their power over the sub-continent. Until 1858, when Queen Victoria assumed sovereignty following the Indian Rebellion, the country was run by the East India Company - by this time a hybrid of state and commercial enterprises and eloquently and fiercely attacked as intrinsically immoral and dangerous by Edmund Burke in the late 1700s. Seeking to go beyond the statutes and ceremony, and show the reality of the interactions between rulers and ruled on a local level, this book looks at one of the most interesting phenomena of British India - the 'Eurasians'. The adventurers of the early years of Indian occupation arrived alone, and in taking 'native' mistresses and wives, created a race of administrators who were 'others' to both the native population and the British ruling class. These Anglo-Indian people existed in the zone between the colonizer and the colonized, and their history provides a wonderfully rich source for understanding Indian social history, race and colonial hegemony.
