1997 | 602 Pages | ISBN: 1850745285 | PDF | 92 MB
With contributions by Miranda Armour-Chelu, Richard Brickstock, John Casey, Mike Charles, Sue Colledge, Rowena Gale, Mark Hassall, Robert Ixer, Alison Locker, Mick Monk, Sidney Renow, Robin P Symonds, Roberta Tomber, Felicity Wild, and Leonard Wilkinson.Ebook (PDF) published 2013.The excavations at Viroconium cornoviorum (Wroxeter), Shropshire, on the site of the baths basilica, built c 150 AD have provided seminal information of considerable importance for the study of the late and post-Roman periods in Britain. This is presented here in detail, with lavish illustrations including a large number of conjectural reconstructions of buildings and site panoramas, and 177 loose leaf plans. The final chapter considers the difficulty of dating late and sub-Roman sites, and locates the site within the broader framework of Roman and sub-Roman Britain. Considerable quantities of artefacts and environmental material were recovered, but only information related to the interpretation of the structures is presented here. The life of the baths basilica continued to the end of the fifth century. The site and neighbouring town blocks were then redeveloped with the construction of up to seventy timber buildings set on rubble and posthole foundations. Analysis of these buildings show that they were laid out using Roman modules. Chief among them, and occupying the centre of the site, was a massive winged house, apparently indicating the conversion of a former public space into a private demesne. Subsequently parts of the area seem to have again changed status with part of the east-west street taken over and occupied by market booths. Abandonment is indicated by a radiocarbon date of between 600 and 790 AD obtained from a single burial cut into the latest structures.

The Art of Color Categorization
Free Download The Art of Color Categorization
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031476891 | 273 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 23 MB
From Newton's prism spectroscopy to modern color science, the study of color has been rooted in the categorization of colors. Building upon this foundation, this book aims to explore the rich and varied examples of color theory through two basic concepts: categorizing colors themselves and categorizing things by color. How have different cultures drawn the line between colors, and why? What do these divisions reveal about color naming, standards, environments, and sensory perceptions? The book delves into these questions, shedding light on how color categorization has shaped our world.

The Ape that Understood the Universe How the Mind and Culture Evolve
Free Download The Ape that Understood the Universe: How the Mind and Culture Evolve By Steve Stewart-Williams
2019 | 386 Pages | ISBN: 1108732755 | PDF | 4 MB
The Ape that Understood the Universe is the story of the strangest animal in the world: the human animal. It opens with a question: How would an alien scientist view our species? What would it make of our sex differences, our sexual behavior, our altruistic tendencies, and our culture? The book tackles these issues by drawing on two major schools of thought: evolutionary psychology and cultural evolutionary theory. The guiding assumption is that humans are animals, and that like all animals, we evolved to pass on our genes. At some point, however, we also evolved the capacity for culture - and from that moment, culture began evolving in its own right. This transformed us from a mere ape into an ape capable of reshaping the planet, travelling to other worlds, and understanding the vast universe of which we're but a tiny, fleeting fragment. Featuring a new foreword by Michael Shermer.
