The Chief Information Officer role has changed in focus over the last 40 years. Originally under the control of the Chief Financial Officer to contain what was seen as costs without return. The focus then moved to hardware with the Information Technology Manager, then on to Information Manager, and at last a more strategic focus as the Chief Information Officer and lately the Chief Digital Officer with a focus on digital.
This book discusses the growing realization that true organizational innovation comes not from finance, information, or technology, or even from digital change, but from the people, given the right circumstances. We explore the suggestion that it is time to introduce the Chief Agility Officer to take over leadership while the Chief Information Officer continues to focus on information, technology, and digital.
