Bamboozled! How America Loses the Intellectual Game with Japan and Its Implications for Our Future in Asia
Free Download Ivan P. Hall, "Bamboozled!: How America Loses the Intellectual Game with Japan and Its Implications for Our Future in Asia"
English | 2015 | ISBN: 076561006X, 0765610051 | EPUB | pages: 352 | 0.7 mb
As the influence of the United States in Asia declines with the end of the Cold War, America must look more to brains than military might in achieving our objectives in the region. But after repeatedly allowing Japan - our closest ally in Asia - to mislead us intellectually and psychologically, how well are we prepared to deal with less friendly emerging powers like China and India? Based on three decades of on-the-spot observation and participation in Japan, Ivan Hall's provocative work draws the reader into a world of intellectual manipulation and gullibility, false images, emotional blackmail, financial beguilement, and fatuous expectations. It illuminates the many ways that American ideological hubris and Japanese pleading for special treatment combine to deprive our trans-Pacific dialogue of the honesty, openness, and plain common sense of our trans-Atlantic intellectual ties with Europe.

E-BooksSociology in Mexico An Intellectual and Institutional History

Sociology in Mexico An Intellectual and Institutional History
Free Download Sociology in Mexico: An Intellectual and Institutional History by Gina Zabludovsky
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 99 Pages | ISBN : 3031420888 | 2.2 MB
This book presents a condensed history of Sociology in Mexico from its origins, through to the middle of the 19th century and up to the present day. The book analyses the interaction between sociology and the main economic, political and social change in the country, including the 1910 Mexican Revolution, the main social movements, the role of the intellectual exiles from Spain and Latin America, and the participation of women, who have often remained invisible in the history of sociology. The book explores how sociological discourse played a fundamental role in the separation of secular and public education and the search for a 'national project' from 1868 onwards, despite the lack of an institute of social research until 1930; how sociology became an autonomous social science, led by a few intellectuals and public figures, as it became institutionalized in universities, and the effect this had on the development of the discipline; the influence of Marxism during the 1970s; and the progression from a process of specialization after the fall of the Berlin Wall to a new trend of working in collective projects with an increasing interdisciplinary perspective in the first decades of the 21st century.

From Antiquity to the Covid–19 Pandemic The Intellectual Property of Medicines and Access to Health – A Sourcebook
Free Download de Carvalho, "From Antiquity to the Covid-19 Pandemic: The Intellectual Property of Medicines and Access to Health - A Sourcebook"
English | ISBN: 9403528508 | 2020 | 376 pages | PDF | 15 MB
The COVID-19 pandemic has magnified the tensions inherent in the interface of proprietary medicines and the strong reaction of society at large in respect of pharmaceutical inventors and rights holders. As this comprehensive collection of sources shows, these tensions have persisted since ancient times. The sources-along with headnotes and a deeply informed preamble-clearly illustrate how society has constructed intellectual property in association with medicines to adapt it to the needs of entrepreneurship and free trade, and, at the same time, accommodating it to the imperatives of public health.

E-BooksIntellectual Property Statistics

Intellectual Property Statistics
Free Download Intellectual Property Statistics: Measuring Framework for Standards and Trade in Ideas
English | 2023 | ISBN: 303136385X | 300 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 12 MB
Patents and other intellectual property (IP) rights are increasingly part of cross-border trade in their own rights. Patent transfers and patent licensing between inventors, investors and innovators create new business strategies of cooperation in the creation of new technology - increasing the productivity in the stock of technology assets - and efficient "distribution" of these rights. The rights bundles are then used - also increasingly - in products and services being traded cross-border, furthering economic efficiency created by this cooperative strategy. Today's international trade statistics, however, lack statistics explicitly on trade flows from ideas, based on IP rights. This book offers an idea based statistical framework to measure IP, (i.e., increasingly depends on trade in ideas) and explores ways to introduce the framework into international standards. Specifically, it offers a theory of value to measure the flows from IP and an asset view of IP to deal with allocation of resources and who owns these rights. This is then contrasted with the current way IP is treated and a "gap analysis" is used to identify what needs to change in the standards. This new framework can help develop theories, policies, practices and inform the decisions needed to better leverage the human capital formation of inventors everywhere.

E-BooksArtificial Intelligence, Intellectual Property, Cyber Risk and Robotics

Artificial Intelligence, Intellectual Property, Cyber Risk and Robotics
Free Download Artificial Intelligence, Intellectual Property, Cyber Risk and Robotics: A New Digital Age
English | 2023 | ISBN: 0367857545 | 157 Pages | PDF (True) | 8 MB
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the most rapidly developing technology in the current Digital Age, but it is also the least defined, understood and adequately explained technological advance. This book brings together a group of leading experts who assess different aspects of AI from different disciplinary perspectives. The book argues that robots are not living systems but the creations of humans who must ultimately be accountable for the actions of the robots that they have invented. Robots do not have ownership entitlement. The book uses Intellectual Property Rights cases, evidence from roboticists, cybersecurity experts, Patent Court judges, technology officers, climate change scientists, economists, physicists and those from the legal profession to demonstrate that while AI can have very beneficial uses for many aspects of human economy and society, robots are not living systems autonomous from human decision making. This book will be useful to those in banking and insurance, cybersecurity, lawyers, judges, technology officers, economists, scientist inventors, computer scientists, large and small companies and postgraduate students.

Nazi Culture Intellectual, Cultural and Social Life in the Third Reich
Free Download Nazi Culture: Intellectual, Cultural and Social Life in the Third Reich By George Lachmann Mosse
2003 | 386 Pages | ISBN: 0299193047 | PDF | 27 MB
What was life like under the Third Reich? What went on between parents and children? What were the prevailing attitudes about sex, morality, religion? How did workers perceive the effects of the New Order in the workplace? What were the cultural currents-in art, music, science, education, drama, and on the radio? Professor Mosse's extensive analysis of Nazi culture-groundbreaking upon its original publication in 1966-is now offered to readers of a new generation. Selections from newspapers, novellas, plays, and diaries as well as the public pronouncements of Nazi leaders, churchmen, and professors describe National Socialism in practice and explore what it meant for the average German. By recapturing the texture of culture and thought under the Third Reich, Mosse's work still resonates today-as a document of everyday life in one of history's darkest eras and as a living memory that reminds us never to forget.
