Alessandro Mongili, Giuseppina Pellegrino, "Information Infrastructure(s): Boundaries, Ecologies, Multiplicity"
English | 2014 | ISBN: 1443866555 | PDF | pages: 384 | 2.8 mb
This book marks an important contribution to the fascinating debate on the role that information infrastructures and boundary objects play in contemporary life, bringing to the fore the concern of how cooperation across different groups is enabled, but also constrained, by the material and immaterial objects connecting them. As such, the book itself is situated at the crossroads of various paths and genealogies, all focusing on the problem of the intersection between different levels of scale throughout devices, networks, and society. Information infrastructures allow, facilitate, mediate, saturate and influence people's material and immaterial surroundings. They are often shaped and intertwined with networks of relations and distributed agency, sometimes enabling the existence of such networks, and being, in turn, produced by them. Such infrastructures are not static and immobile in time and space: rather, they require maintenance and repair, which becomes an important aspect of their use. They also define and cross more or less visible boundaries, shape and act as ecologies, and constitute themselves as multiple entities. The various chapters of this edited book question the role of information infrastructures in various settings from both a theoretical and an empirical viewpoint, reflecting the contributors' interests in science and technology studies, organization studies, and information science, as well as mobilities and media studies.

Martin Blaiklock, "Infrastructure Finance: An Inside View"
English | ISBN: 1787420833 | 2017 | 1 pages | EPUB | 8 MB
This comprehensive new book provides in-depth coverage of all aspects of infrastructure project financing. The boundaries of "infrastructure" are clearly defined and the key processes - from project concept via funding mechanisms, risk analysis, financial structuring and funding sources, to financial close and implementation - are examined in detail. Part 1 covers: characteristics of "infrastructure"; financial structures; sources of finance; risk; quantitative analysis; contractual frameworks and project processes. Part 2 explores: the full range of infrastructure and public service (PPP-type) projects, and highlights the differences between sectors, sector-specific risks and the limits on the use of private capital to support such ventures. The text is illustrated with case studies drawing on the successes, and failures, of global infrastructure projects, covering: transport; power and renewable energy; oil, gas and power transmission; water and waste and municipal and public-private partnerships ("PPP").The book also addresses the challenges faced in some of the UK's high-profile mega-infrastructure projects (including "The Super Sewer", Heathrow Runway 3, Hinkley Point 'C' Nuclear Power Plant and HS2), and how these challenges have been overcome. Pitfalls to be avoided are discussed in detail alongside the key steps which should be taken to ensure success.
