Pentecostalism and Politics of Conversion in India
Free Download Sarbeswar Sahoo, "Pentecostalism and Politics of Conversion in India"
English | ISBN: 1108416128 | 2018 | 220 pages | PDF | 2 MB
This book studies the politics of Pentecostal conversion and anti-Christian violence in India. It asks: why has India been experiencing increasing incidents of anti-Christian violence since the 1990s? Why are the Bhil Adivasis increasingly converting to Pentecostalism? And, what are the implications of conversion for religion within indigenous communities on the one hand and broader issues of secularism, religious freedom and democratic rights on the other? Drawing on extended ethnographic fieldwork amongst the Bhils of Northern India since 2006, this book asserts that ideological incompatibility and antagonism between Christian missionaries and Hindu nationalists provide only a partial explanation for anti-Christian violence in India. It unravels the complex interactions between different actors/ agents in the production of anti-Christian violence and provides detailed ethnographic narratives on Pentecostal conversion, Hindu nationalist politics and anti-Christian violence in the largest state of India that has hitherto been dominated by upper caste Rajput Hindu(tva) ideology.

Marginalities and Mobilities among India's Muslims
Free Download Tanweer Fazal, "Marginalities and Mobilities among India's Muslims "
English | ISBN: 1032248289 | 2023 | 280 pages | EPUB | 1328 KB
This book studies how marginality impacts the everyday lives of Indian Muslims. It challenges the prevailing myths and stereotypes through which Indian Muslims have come to be seen in the popular imagination. The volume engages with questions of citizenship, collective violence, and issues of civil and criminal jurisprudence. It explores the linkages between development, marginality, and citizenship - the three critical issues for modern democracies today. Going beyond the singular narrative of a community on a continuous slide, the chapters in this volume present diversities of the Muslim experience of exclusion and participation. It discusses themes such as violence and marginality among minorities; Indian Muslims and the ghettoized economy; employment aspirations of low-income Muslim men; intergenerational social mobility of Muslims; the nature of the middle class; and the question of Islam, development, and globalization to showcase the living conditions of Muslims in India.

Illiberal India Gauri Lankesh and the Age of Unreason
Free Download Illiberal India: Gauri Lankesh and the Age of Unreason By Chidanand Rajghatta
2018 | 236 Pages | ISBN: 9387894029 | EPUB | 1 MB
5 September 2017: journalist Gauri Lankesh was shot to death. Following in the method of previous murders of rationalists M.M. Kalburgi, Govind Pansare and Narendra Dabholkar, Lankesh's murder chilled the nation, sparking off protests across India. Even as the police unravels the Description behind her murder and connects it to the others, the larger forces that killed these four activists continue to grow.A fierce critic of the burgeoning Hindutva faction in Karnataka and elsewhere in India, and a strident supporter of separate-religion status for Lingayats, Lankesh's activism had made her many foes. Fluent in Kannada and English, she was a particular threat to her ideological enemies - able to reach the influencers through a language of power and a wider audience at the grassroots through her mother tongue. In this personal-is-political narrative, senior journalist and analyst Chidanand Rajghatta examines the lives of two people against the volatile backdrop of an increasingly fractious and intolerant India. The two strands come together in the gutting death of a courageous woman who took on these forces and fought for a more equitable society, a better India.
