E-BooksHow Latin America Weathered the Global Financial Crisis

How Latin America Weathered the Global Financial Crisis
Free Download José De Gregorio, "How Latin America Weathered the Global Financial Crisis "
English | ISBN: 088132678X | 2013 | 166 pages | PDF | 11 MB
Why has the economy of Latin America responded more positively than Asia, Europe, or the United States after being hit by the recent global financial crisis? Three years after the worst of the crisis, Latin America's GDP is 25 percent higher than its precrisis level. José De Gregorio, Governor of the Central Bank of Chile from 2007 to 2011, tells the story of how Latin America has responded to the crisis with a perspective that only an insider can have. De Gregorio focuses on the seven largest economies of the region, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela (90 percent of the region's output). He argues that Latin America was resilient because of good macroeconomic policies, strong financial systems, and "a bit of luck."

Going Global Transnational Perspectives on Globalization, Language, and Education
Free Download Leslie Seawright, "Going Global: Transnational Perspectives on Globalization, Language, and Education"
English | ISBN: 1443863335 | 2014 | 240 pages | PDF | 1134 KB
While English has become the lingua franca in science, business, and other fields, scholars still grapple with the implications of its adoption in many other settings and cultures. To what extent should English be introduced and taught in schools around the world? Who "owns" the English language and can therefore shape its structure and aims? What are world Englishes and how can teachers demonstrate them to their students? Is English the language of the oppressor, an imperialist tool, or does global English offer an opportunity for greater understanding and cooperation amongst peoples and cultures? This volume of critical essays explores these and other questions surrounding language, education, and culture in the globalized world. Honoring students' cultures while trying to prepare them for an uncertain and constantly changing future is the resounding theme of this book. The contributors to this volume are as multi-cultural and multi-faceted as such a volume would demand. The essays include authors and studies from Algeria, India, Iran, Ghana, Germany, Poland, Tunisia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Yemen. The perspectives offered in this volume contribute greatly to the ongoing conversations on language, education, and globalization.

International trade has moved into a new phase. Gone are the days when years of effort were required in the domestic market before going global. You can now start a company on Monday and be trading with the world by Wednesday. She offers a route map that will have you trading across the globe and illustrates how it can be done, with stories from 20 successful exporters. E-BooksGlobal Tsunami Science Past and Future, Volume I (2024)

Global Tsunami Science Past and Future, Volume I (2024)
Free Download Global Tsunami Science: Past and Future, Volume I By Eric L Geist, Hermann M. Fritz, Alexander B. Rabinovich, Yuichiro Tanioka
English | PDF | 2017 | 545 Pages | ISBN : 3319554794 | 125.10 MB
Tsunami science has evolved significantly since the occurrence of two of the most destructive natural disasters in recent times: the 26 December 2004 Sumatra tsunami that killed about 230,000 people along the coasts of 14 countries in the Indian Ocean and the 11 March 2011 Tohoku (Great East Japan) tsunami that killed almost 20,000 people and destroyed the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. As a result of these and many other destructive tsunamis that have occurred over just the last decade, scientists from around the world have come together to engage in tsunami research. The global community of researchers has also expanded by discipline, adapting advances in other sciences to study all aspects of tsunami hydrodynamics, detection, generation, and probability of occurrence. The papers presented in this first of two topical volumes of Pure and Applied Geophysics reflect the state of tsunami science during this time. Nine papers examine various aspects of tsunami hazard and risk assessment. Five papers present new methods for tsunami warning and detection and six other papers describe new methods for understanding tsunami hydrodynamics. The final five papers of the volume describe tsunamis generated by non-seismic sources and important case studies. Collectively, this volume highlights contemporary trends in global tsunami science, both fundamental and applied toward hazard assessment and mitigation. The volume is of interest to scientists and practitioners involved in all aspects of tsunamis from source processes to coastal impacts. Postgraduate students in geophysics, oceanography and coastal engineering - as well as students in the broader geosciences, civil and environmental engineering - will also find the book to be a valuable resource, as it combines recent case studies with advances in tsunami science and natural hazards mitigation.
