E-BooksGraded Algebras in Algebraic Geometry

Graded Algebras in Algebraic Geometry
English | 2022 | ISBN: 3110637545, 978-3110637540 | 465 pages | True PDF | 7.19 MB
The objective of this book is to look at certain commutative graded algebras that appear frequently in algebraic geometry. By studying classical constructions from geometry from the point of view of modern commutative algebra, this carefully-written book is a valuable source of information, offering a careful algebraic systematization and treatment of the problems at hand, and contributing to the study of the original geometric questions. In greater detail, the material covers aspects of rational maps (graph, degree, birationality, specialization, combinatorics), Cremona transformations, polar maps, Gauss maps, the geometry of Fitting ideals, tangent varieties, joins and secants, Aluffi algebras. The book includes sections of exercises to help put in practice the theoretic material instead of the mere complementary additions to the theory.

E-BooksExperiencing Geometry

Experiencing Geometry
David W. Henderson, Daina Taimina, "Experiencing Geometry"
English | 2004 | pages: 405 | ISBN: 0131437488 | PDF | 21,5 mb
The distinctive approach of Henderson and Taimina's volume stimulates readers to develop a broader, deeper, understanding of mathematics through active experience-including discovery, discussion, writing fundamental ideas and learning about the history of those ideas. A series of interesting, challenging problems encourage readers to gather and discuss their reasonings and understanding. The volume provides an understanding of the possible shapes of the physical universe. The authors provide extensive information on historical strands of geometry, straightness on cylinders and cones and hyperbolic planes, triangles and congruencies, area and holonomy, parallel transport, SSS, ASS, SAA, and AAA, parallel postulates, isometries and patterns, dissection theory, square roots, pythagoras and similar triangles, projections of a sphere onto a plane, inversions in circles, projections (models) of hyperbolic planes, trigonometry and duality, 3-spheres and hyperbolic 3-spaces and polyhedra. For mathematics educators and other who need to understand the meaning of geometry.

E-BooksUnsolved Problems in Geometry Unsolved Problems in Intuitive Mathematics

Unsolved Problems in Geometry Unsolved Problems in Intuitive Mathematics
Unsolved Problems in Geometry: Unsolved Problems in Intuitive Mathematics by Hallard T. Croft
English | PDF | 1991 | 213 Pages | ISBN : 0387975063 | 18.9 MB
Mathematicians and non-mathematicians alike have long been fascinated by geometrical problems, particularly those that are intuitive in the sense of being easy to state, perhaps with the aid of a simple diagram. Each section in the book describes a problem or a group of related problems. Usually the problems are capable of generalization of variation in many directions. The book can be appreciated at many levels and is intended for everyone from amateurs to research mathematicians.

Arithmetic Geometry, Number Theory, and Computation
Arithmetic Geometry, Number Theory, and Computation
English | 2022 | ISBN: 3030809137 | 597 Pages | PDF EPUB | 44 MB
This volume contains articles related to the work of the Simons Collaboration "Arithmetic Geometry, Number Theory, and Computation." The papers present mathematical results and algorithms necessary for the development of large-scale databases like the L-functions and Modular Forms Database (LMFDB). The authors aim to develop systematic tools for analyzing Diophantine properties of curves, surfaces, and abelian varieties over number fields and finite fields. The articles also explore examples important for future research.

E-BooksCoarse Geometry of Topological Groups

Coarse Geometry of Topological Groups
Christian Rosendal, "Coarse Geometry of Topological Groups "
English | ISBN: 110884247X | 2021 | 200 pages | PDF | 2 MB
This book provides a general framework for doing geometric group theory for many non-locally-compact topological transformation groups that arise in mathematical practice, including homeomorphism and diffeomorphism groups of manifolds, isometry groups of separable metric spaces and automorphism groups of countable structures. Using Roe's framework of coarse structures and spaces, the author defines a natural coarse geometric structure on all topological groups. This structure is accessible to investigation, especially in the case of Polish groups, and often has an explicit description, generalising well-known structures in familiar cases including finitely generated discrete groups, compactly generated locally compact groups and Banach spaces. In most cases, the coarse geometric structure is metrisable and may even be refined to a canonical quasimetric structure on the group. The book contains many worked examples and sufficient introductory material to be accessible to beginning graduate students. An appendix outlines several open problems in this young and rich theory.
