E-BooksNatural Gas at the Frontline Between the EU, Russia, and Turkey

Natural Gas at the Frontline Between the EU, Russia, and Turkey
Natural Gas at the Frontline Between the EU, Russia, and Turkey: A Conflict-Cooperation Perpetuum
English | 2022 | ISBN: 3031170563 | 280 Pages | PDF (True) | 6 MB
This book analyses the rapidly unfolding events that have impacted on the European energy dynamics, in the light of the way in Ukraine and the energy crisis that have reconfigured, since 2022, the European and the global geopolitical scene, dislocating not only crucial natural resources but also the pace of the energy transition and the continent's existential security, its basic trust and sense of continuity. It introduces an innovative interpretation of the conflict and cooperation dynamics in Europe, by challenging the reader to look beyond the material aspects of energy security, related to supply and demand, consumption, production and prices dynamics, which I nonetheless explain in detail. Thus, it invites the audience to explore the deeper layer of motivations that underpin the actors' decision to engage in conflict and cooperation, by exploring their cognitive and psychological considerations, in addition to the material ones. For this purpose, it presents a new conceptual tool, the conflict-cooperation perpetuum, in order to explain why the same players, in this case the EU, Russia and Turkey, may choose to simultaneously perceive each other as security threats and trade partners, engaging in both conflict and cooperation simultaneously with the same 'Other'. In addition, it proposes to apply the framework of ontological security, in order to understand the responses of the EU, Russia and Turkey to the major existential crises that have affected them in past years, culminating with the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis of 2022.

E-BooksCalifornia Burning The Fall of Pacific Gas and Electric—and What It Means for America's Power Grid [Audiobook]

California Burning The Fall of Pacific Gas and Electric—and What It Means for America's Power Grid [Audiobook]
English | ASIN: B09MVBT7V8 | 2022 | 9 hours and 41 minutes | MP3 | M4B | 267 MB
A revelatory, urgent narrative with national implications, exploring the decline of California's largest utility company that led to countless wildfires—including the one that destroyed the town of Paradise–and the human cost of infrastructure failure Pacific Gas and Electric was a legacy company built by innovators and visionaries, establishing California as a desirable home and economic powerhouse. In California Burning, Wall Street Journal reporter and Pulitzer finalist Katherine Blunt examines how that legacy fell apart—unraveling a long history of deadly failures in which Pacific Gas and Electric endangered millions of Northern Californians, through criminal neglect of its infrastructure. As PG&E prioritized profits and politics, power lines went unchecked—until a rusted hook purchased for 56 cents in 1921 split in two, sparking the deadliest wildfire in California history.

Nanostructured Gas Sensors Fundamentals, Devices, and Applications
English | 2023 | ISBN: 978-9814968539 | 184 pages | True PDF | 93.7 MB
Nanostructure materials exhibit distinct properties by virtue of nanoscale morphological variations, which opens up endless possibilities to investigate unexplored and interesting applications. This textbook broadly covers the fabrication and characterization of nanostructure films and exploration of their gas-sensing applications. It presents the fundamentals of gas-sensing technology and a comprehensive study on smart gas sensing technology. Readers will find basics, analytical techniques, nanotechnology-enabled experimental findings, and future directions of smart gas-sensing technology at one place. Through the inclusion of up-to-date experimental knowledge of synthesis, processing, and application development, the book is suitable for academics at all levels.

E-BooksCarbon Capture Technologies for Gas-Turbine-Based Power Plants

Carbon Capture Technologies for Gas-Turbine-Based Power Plants
English | 2022 | ISBN: 0128188685 | 262 pages | True PDF EPUB | 29.99 MB
Carbon Capture Technologies for Gas-Turbine-Based Power Plants explores current progress in one of the most capable technologies for carbon capture in gas-turbine-based power plants. It identifies the primary benefits and shortcomings of oxy-fuel combustion CO2 capture technology compared to other capture technologies such as pre-combustion and post-combustion capture. This book examines over 20 different oxy-combustion turbine (oxyturbine) power cycles by providing their main operational parameters, thermodynamics and process modelling, energy and exergy analysis and performance evaluation. The conventional natural gas combined cycle (NGCC) power plant with post-combustion capture used as the base-case scenario. The design procedure and operational characteristics of a radial NOx-less oxy-fuel gas turbine combustor are presented with CFD simulation and performance analysis of the heat exchanger network and turbomachinery. Overview of oxygen production and air separation units (ASU) and CO2 compression and purification units (CPU) are also presented and discussed. The most advanced stages of development for the leading oxyturbine power cycles are assessed using techno-economic analysis, sensitivity, risk assessments and levelized cost of energy (LCOE) and analysing technology readiness level (TRL) and development stages. The book concludes with a road map for the development of future gas turbine-based power plants with full carbon capture capabilities using the experiences of the recently demonstrated cycles.
Analyzes more than 20 models of oxyturbine power cycles, identifying the main parameters regarding their operation, process and performance simulations and energy and exergy analysisProvides techno-economic analysis, TRL, sensitivity and risk analysis, LCOE and stages of development for oxy-combustion turbine power plantsPresents the design procedure and CFD simulation of a radial NOx-less oxy-fuel gas turbine combustor exploring its influence on heat exchanger network and turbomachinerySupports practitioners, policymakers and energy industry managers seeking pathways to convert coal-fired power plants to gas-fired plants with zero CO2 emission
