Explorations in Ethiopian Linguistics Complex Predicates, Finiteness and Interrogativity
Free Download Explorations in Ethiopian Linguistics: Complex Predicates, Finiteness and Interrogativity By Ronny Meyer (editor), Yvonne Treis (editor)
2014 | 299 Pages | ISBN: 3447102144 | PDF | 8 MB
Explorations in Ethiopian Linguistics brings together twelve contributions on linguistic problems at the interface of morphosyntax and semantics/pragmatics in Semitic, Cushitic and Omotic languages of Ethiopia. The first section of the volume consists of two articles on interrogativity in Amharic and Baskeet. Their main concern is the morphosyntax and use of yes/no and content questions, and the morphology of interrogative pronouns. The second section assembles four chapters dealing with complex predicates in Amharic, Koorete, Zargulla and Xamtanga. They point out the semantic/pragmatic differences between complex predicates and their monoverbal counterparts, the morphosyntactic properties of the component verbs, and the differences between complex predicates and multi-clausal constructions. The six contributions of the third section are dedicated to issues of finiteness in Libido and various Ethiosemitic languages including Amharic, Ge'ez, Gurage languages and Tigrinya. The studies show that a high degree of linguistic variability occurs in finiteness marking in these languages. In discussing verb forms that are neither fully finite nor fully infinite they provide further support for the hypothesis that finiteness should be considered a relational - scalar rather than an absolute - binary category. Most articles are based on presentations made at the 18th International Conference of Ethiopian Studies held from 29 October until 2 November 2012 in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, and, thus, reflect recent research trends in the description of Ethiopian languages.

Rewind to the 1950s and ponder: was America's first satellite really built by a college student? How did a small band of underappreciated Russian engineers get pictures of the moon's far side-using stolen American film? As the 1960s progressed, consider: how the heck did people learn to steer a spacecraft using nothing but gravity? And just how were humans able to goose a spaceship through a thirty-year journey to the literal edge of our solar system?

The Uses of Narrative Explorations in Sociology, Psychology and Cultural Studies
Free Download Shelley Sclater, "The Uses of Narrative: Explorations in Sociology, Psychology and Cultural Studies"
English | ISBN: 113853935X | 2017 | 202 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
Social scientists increasingly invoke "narrative" in their theory and research. This book explores the wide range of work in sociology, psychology and cultural studies in which narrative approaches have been used to study meaning, subjectivity, politics, and power in concrete contexts. The Uses of Narrative presents a range of case studies, including: Princess Diana's Panorama interview, media coverage of the 1992 Los Angeles riots, memoirs of the wives of scientists who made the first atomic bomb, popular images of gay marriage, and the effect of the "Velvet Revolution" on writing autobiography. The book brings together contributions from European, Australian, and North American researchers, indicating the diversity and potential of narrative approaches. The editors adopt a distinctive and unique psychosocial approach to narrative, and set the individual chapters in the context of three broad themes: culture, life histories, and discourse. The Uses of Narrative complicates, challenges and stimulates-it will be of vital interest to sociologists, psychologists, social theorists, students of cultural studies, and others who are interested in the relationships between meaning, self and society.

Free Download Joshua Cockayne, "Explorations in Analytic Ecclesiology: That They May be One "
English | ISBN: 0192844601 | 2023 | 240 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Explorations in Analytic Ecclesiology proposes an account of the nature and practice of the Church that draws from work in contemporary analytic social metaphysics, social epistemology, and social ethics. In the first book-length study of ecclesiology in analytic theology, Joshua Cockayne offers a vision of the Church, according to which the Church is united as the body of Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit, despite the apparent diversity of the Church in its gathered, particular forms. This account of the oneness of the Church in and through the work of the persons of the Trinity is then applied to explore the nature of baptism, the eucharist, and liturgy.

The work of considering, imagining, and theorizing the U.S. South in regional, national, and global contexts is an intellectual project that has been going on for some time. Scholars in history, literature, and other disciplines have developed an advanced understanding of the historical, social, and cultural forces that have helped to shape the U.S. South. However, most of the debates on these subjects have taken place within specific academic disciplines, with few attempts to cross-engage.

Explorations in Quantum Computing
Free Download Explorations in Quantum Computing by Colin P. Williams
English | PDF (True) | 2011 | 724 Pages | ISBN : 184628886X | 9.92 MB
By the year 2020, the basic memory components of a computer will be the size of individual atoms. At such scales, the current theory of computation will become invalid. "Quantum computing" is reinventing the foundations of computer science and information theory in a way that is consistent with quantum physics - the most accurate model of reality currently known. Remarkably, this theory predicts that quantum computers can perform certain tasks breathtakingly faster than classical computers - and, better yet, can accomplish mind-boggling feats such as teleporting information, breaking supposedly "unbreakable" codes, generating true random numbers, and communicating with messages that betray the presence of eavesdropping.

E-BooksNew Materialist Explorations into Language Education

New Materialist Explorations into Language Education
Johanna Ennser-Kananen, "New Materialist Explorations into Language Education"
English | ISBN: 3031138465 | 2023 | 198 pages | EPUB, PDF | 5 MB + 5 MB
This open access book analyzes language education through a socio-material framework. The authors revisit their position as researchers by decentering themselves and humans in general from the main focus of research activities and giving way to the materialities that are agentive but often overlooked parts of our research contexts and processes. Through this critical posthumanist realism, they are able to engage in research that sees society as an ethical interrelationship between humans and the material world and explore the socio-materialities of language education from the perspectives of material agency, spatial and embodied materiality, and human and non-human assemblages.

Laura Wilhelm Edd, "Treasure Basket Explorations: Heuristic Learning for Infants and Toddlers"
English | ISBN: 0876595751 | 2017 | 80 pages | EPUB | 9 MB

In Treasure-Basket Explorations: Heuristic Learning for Infants and Toddlers, teachers and caregivers of infants and toddlers will learn how these simple explorations support cognitive and vocabulary development. Grounded in the theory of early education pioneer Elinor Goldschmied, the book explains heuristic learning-discovery by trial and error-and how to encourage this type of learning to boost development.
