E-BooksThe post-colonial state in the era of capitalist globalization historical, political and theoretical approaches to state forma

The post-colonial state in the era of capitalist globalization historical, political and theoretical approaches to state forma
The post-colonial state in the era of capitalist globalization: historical, political and theoretical approaches to state formation By Tariq Amin-Khan
2014 | 262 Pages | ISBN: 0415891590 | PDF | 3 MB
State formation in post-colonial societies differed greatly from the formation of the Western capitalist state. The latter has been extensively studied, while a coherent grasp of the post-colonial state has remained elusive. Amin-Khan provides a critical historical and contemporary understanding of post-colonial state formations in Asia and Africa, and suggests how this process differed from the formation of states in Latin America. In distinguishing between the post-colonial state and the Western capitalist state, the author argues that the unitary colonial state left a strong legacy on the decolonized states of Asia and Africa, reinscribing their subordination vis-a-vis Western states, transnational corporations and multilateral institutions. The indigenous elites' decision at the time of decolonization to retain colonial state structures meant the readaptation of capitalism-imperialism nexus to suit new post-colonial realities, which enabled the formation of clientelist relationships. This post-colonial reality and exploration of the contemporary context provides the basis of analyzing two post-colonial state forms, the capitalist and proto-capitalist varieties, which are examined using the case studies of India and Pakistan.

E-BooksCambridge Economics in the Post-Keynesian Era The Eclipse of Heterodox Traditions

Cambridge Economics in the Post-Keynesian Era The Eclipse of Heterodox Traditions
English | 2022 | ISBN: 978-3030930189 | 1218 pages | True PDF EPUB | 30.81 MB
This book chronicles the rise and especially the demise of diverse revolutionary heterodox traditions in Cambridge theoretical and applied economics, investigating both the impact of internal pressures within the faculty as also the power of external ideological and political forces unleashed by the global dominance of neoliberalism. Using fresh archival materials, personal interviews and recollections, this meticulously researched narrative constructs the untold story of the eclipse of these heterodox and post-Keynesian intellectual traditions rooted and nurtured in Cambridge since the 1920s, and the rise to power of orthodox, mainstream economics. Also expunged in this neoclassical counter-revolution were the structural and radical policy-oriented macro-economic modelling teams of the iconic Department of Applied Economics, along with the atrophy of sociology, development and economic history from teaching and research in the self-purifying faculty. This book will be of particular interest to researchers in the history of economic thought, sociology of knowledge, political economy, especially those engaged in heterodox and post-Keynesian economics, and to everyone wishing to make economics fit for purpose again for negotiating the multiple economic, social and environmental crises rampant at national and global levels.

E-BooksVaccines in the Global Era How to Deal Safely and Effectively with the Pandemics of Our Time

Vaccines in the Global Era How to Deal Safely and Effectively with the Pandemics of Our Time
English | 2022 | ISBN: 1800611935 | 266 pages | True PDF | 92.82 MB
A new coronavirus, most likely spilled over from an animal species, has plunged us into the third epidemic of this kind in the last twenty years, against which there were neither vaccines nor therapies.
While we argue over the future of humanity, vulnerable to the ecological and environmental degradation that has enabled the pandemic, extraordinary technologies have been developed to combat infectious diseases. In just eleven months it was possible to develop, test and produce the vaccines that are gradually enabling us to escape the SARS-CoV-2 nightmare. In addition, with the legacy of the technologies developed against COVID-19, we will be able to overcome antimicrobial resistance—a slow but inexorable pandemic.

English | 2022 | ISBN: 978-1032196565 | 336 pages | True PDF | 11.74 MB
The book delves into post-genomics advances in potato improvement since the potato genome sequencing in 2011. It includes recent developments in the field of potato genetic resources, genes and SNP markers discovery, and the progress in next-generation breeding applying various omics technologies and modern sequencing tools. It covers cutting-edge technologies in potato - a global perspective, genome sequencing and resequencing of various cultivated and wild species, potato germplasm management and characterization, prebreeding genomics, genome mapping and gene cloning, markers discovery, marker-assisted selection, transgenics, microRNAs, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, phenomics, next-generation potato breeding technologies including genome editing and genomic selection and bioinformatics applications in the post-genomics era in potato. As genome editing and genomic selection have become emerging tools in crop improvement including potato, several research works have been demonstrated and applied world over. This book concentrates on genomics-aided characterization of germplasm and markers discovery to accelerate potato breeding. Further, various omics technologies strengthen our understanding on
discovery of new genes/proteins/metabolites and key traits based on high-throughput phenotyping involved in various biotic and abiotic stresses in potato crop. The book is a useful source of information related to genomics-led research and development of this crop. It will serve as a valuable resource for potato researchers working in the area of molecular biology and would be beneficial for college students, PhD scholars, scientists, academicians, farmers and policy makers.
