Architecture in Development Systems and the Emergence of the Global South
Architecture in Development: Systems and the Emergence of the Global South by Aggregate Architectural History Collaborative
English | Mar 24, 2022 | ISBN: 1032045329, 1032045337 | 456 pages | PDF | 24 MB
This extensive text investigates how architects, planners, and other related experts responded to the contexts and discourses of "development" after WWII. Development theory did not manifest itself in tracts of economic and political theory alone. It manifested itself in every sphere of expression where economic predicaments might be seen to impinge on cultural factors. Architecture appears in development discourse as a terrain between culture and economics, in that practitioners took on the mantle of modernist expression while also acquiring government contracts and immersing themselves in bureaucratic processes. This book considers how, for a brief period, architects, planners, structural engineers, and various practitioners of the built environment employed themselves in designing all the intimate spheres of life, but from a consolidated space of expertise. Seen in these terms, development was, to cite Arturo Escobar, an immense design project itself, one that requires radical disassembly and rethinking beyond the umbrella terms of "global modernism" and "colonial modernities" that risk erasing the sinews of conflict encountered in globalizing and modernizing architecture.

Expanding Reality The Emergence of Postmaterialist Science
English | 2021 | ISBN: 1789047250 | 192 pages | True EPUB | 309.18 KB
'In Expanding Reality, neuroscientist Mario Beauregard presents the impressive body of scientific evidence that our familiar materialistic model of the world is locked into a sadly outdated 19th-century philosophy. Whether or not you agree with all his conclusions, this courageous book will challenge you to rethink how we see ourselves and our world--and may help usher in a new scientific revolution.' Bruce Greyson, M.D., Carlson Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry & Neurobehavioral Sciences Division of Perceptual Studies, University of Virginia Health System

The International Emergence of Educational Sciences in the Post-World War Two Years
Thomas Popkewitz, "The International Emergence of Educational Sciences in the Post-World War Two Years "
English | ISBN: 0367182793 | 2020 | 272 pages | PDF | 3 MB
The book brings together contributions from curriculum history, cultural studies, visual cultures, and science and technology studies to explore the international mobilizations of the sciences related to education during the post-World War Two years. Crossing the boundaries of education and science studies, it uniquely examines how the desires of science to actualize a better society were converted to the search for remaking social life that paradoxically embodied cultural differences and social divisions.

E-BooksThe Life of Stars The Controversial Inception and Emergence of the Theory of Stellar Structure

The Life of Stars The Controversial Inception and Emergence of the Theory of Stellar Structure
The Life of Stars: The Controversial Inception and Emergence of the Theory of Stellar Structure by Giora Shaviv
English | PDF | 2009 | 514 Pages | ISBN : 3642020879 | 17.7 MB
This beautifully illustrated book describes the birth and evolution of the theory of stellar structure through the vehement controversy between biology (as presented by Darwin) and physics (as presented by Kelvin) about the age of the Earth, which culminated with Rutherford suggesting radioactive dating. Shaviv analyzes critically many proclaimed scientific results, showing how and why they were wrong, and explains why it took decades to find the now accepted scientific answers - where there are such - and why there remains much more to be done before we can say we fully understand what happens up there in the heavens.
