In Silico Modeling of Drugs Against Coronaviruses
English | 2021 | ISBN: 1071613650 | 792 Pages | PDF | 27 MB
This essential volume explores a variety of tools and protocols of structure-based (homology modeling, molecular docking, molecular dynamics, protein-protein interaction network) and ligand-based (pharmacophore mapping, quantitative structure-activity relationships or QSARs) drug design for ranking and prioritization of candidate molecules in search of effective treatment strategy against coronaviruses. Beginning with an introductory section that discusses coronavirus interactions with humanity and COVID-19 in particular, the book then continues with sections on tools and methodologies, literature reports and case studies, as well as online tools and databases that can be used for computational anti-coronavirus drug research. Written for the Methods in Pharmacology and Toxicology series, chapters include the kind of practical detail and implementation advice that ensures high quality results in the lab.

E-BooksUndoing Drugs The Untold Story of Harm Reduction and the Future of Addiction [Audiobook]

Undoing Drugs The Untold Story of Harm Reduction and the Future of Addiction [Audiobook]
English | ASIN: B098R6BWR6 | 2021 | 14 hours and 3 minutes |MP3|M4B | 387 MB
From "one of the bravest, smartest writers about addiction anywhere" (Johann Hari, New York Times best-selling author) - the untold story of harm reduction, a surprisingly simple idea with enormous power. Drug overdoses now kill more Americans annually than guns, cars, or breast cancer. But we have tried to solve this national crisis with policies that only made matters worse. In the name of "sending the right message", we have maximized the spread of infectious disease, torn families apart, incarcerated millions of mostly Black and Brown people - and utterly failed to either prevent addiction or make effective treatment for it widely available. There is another way, one that is proven to work. However, it runs counter to much of the received wisdom of our criminal and medical industrial complexes. It is called harm reduction.
Developed and championed by an outcast group of people who use drugs and by former users and public health geeks, harm reduction offers guidance on how to save lives and improve health. And it provides a way of understanding behavior and culture that has relevance far beyond drugs. In a spellbinding narrative rooted in an urgent call to action, Undoing Drugs tells the story of how a small group of committed people changed the world, illuminating the power of a great idea. It illustrates how hard it can be to take on widely accepted conventional wisdom - and what is necessary to overcome this resistance. It is also about how personal, direct human connection and kindness can inspire profound transformation. Ultimately, Undoing Drugs offers a path forward - revolutionizing not only the treatment of addiction, but also our treatment of behavioral and societal issues.

E-BooksLaw, Drugs and the Politics of Childhood From Protection to Punishment

Law, Drugs and the Politics of Childhood From Protection to Punishment
Law, Drugs and the Politics of Childhood: From Protection to Punishment by Simon Flacks
English | Mar 31, 2021 | ISBN: 0367243784 | 180 pages | PDF | 15 MB
Debates about the regulation of drugs are inseparable from talk of children and the young. Yet how has this association come to be so strong, and why does it have so much explanatory, rhetorical and political force? The premise for this book is that the relationship between drugs and childhood merits more exploration beyond simply pointing out that children and drugs are both 'things we tend to get worried about'. It asks what is at stake when legislators, lobbyists and decision-makers revert to claims about children in order to sustain a given legal or policy position. Beginning with a genealogy of the relationship between the discursive artefacts of 'drugs' and 'childhood', the book draws on Foucauldian methodologies to explore how childhood functions as a device in the biopolitical management of drug use(rs) and supply. In addition to analysing decriminalisation initiatives and sentencing measures, it (unusually) reaches beyond the criminal context to consider the significance of the 'politics of childhood' for law- and policymaking in the fields of family justice and education. It concludes by arguing that the currency of childhood and 'youth' is not reducible to rhetoric; it shapes the discursive entities of drugs and addiction and is one of the ways in which particular substances become socially, culturally and politically intelligible. At the same time, 'drugs' serve as a technology of child normalisation.

A Second Edition of this handbook of drugs used in pediatric cardiac care will satisfy the need for a quick up-to-date reference source of common drug therapy. Several sources are available that present drug information for cardiology, but these place no emphasis on pediatric care and are written for general cardiac specialists.
