Using data to help you reach a conclusion can lead to less indecision and more information—and, ultimately, better outcomes. In this course, advisor and consultant Jim Sterne provides guidance on how to start driving a culture of data-backed decision-making at your organization. Jim explains key concepts around data as well as the concept of data literacy, before reviewing the obstacles to obtaining data, managing data, and achieving data literacy across an organization. By the end of this course, you'll be equipped with new skills for structuring data and making better decisions, both by using specific tools and applying nontechnical concepts.

In this book, The Fourth Decision, we seek to become maximized, expanding the time horizon for our entrepreneurial dreams to an entire lifetime, realizing that a high percentage of entrepreneurs simply never retire―they just work differently as they age. Having done the work and reaped significant rewards as successful entrepreneurs over the past decade or so, we now turn to What's Next (?!) for our companies and our own lives.

Medical Decision Making A Health Economic Primer Second Edition (2024)
Free Download Medical Decision Making: A Health Economic Primer Second Edition by Stefan Felder , Thomas Mayrhofer
English | PDF (True) | 2017 | 262 Pages | ISBN : 3662571374 | 6 MB
This textbook offers a comprehensive analysis of medical decision making under uncertainty by combining Test Information Theory with Expected Utility Theory. The book shows how the parameters of Bayes' theorem can be combined with a value function of health states to arrive at informed test and treatment decisions. The authors distinguish between risk-neutral, risk-averse and prudent decision makers and demonstrate the effects of risk preferences on physicians' decisions. They analyze individual tests, multiple tests and endogenous tests where the test outcome is chosen by the decision maker. Moreover, the topic is examined in the context of health economics by introducing a trade-off between enjoying health and consuming other goods, so that the extent of treatment and thus the potential improvement in the patient's health becomes endogenous. Finally, non-expected utility models of choice under risk and uncertainty (i.e. ambiguity) are presented. While these models can explain observed test and treatment decisions, they are not suitable for normative analyses aimed at providing guidance on medical decision making.

This book presents recent research in decision making under uncertainty, in particular reinforcement learning and learning with expert advice. The core elements of decision theory, Markov decision processes and reinforcement learning have not been previously collected in a concise volume. Our aim with this book was to provide a solid theoretical foundation with elementary proofs of the most important theorems in the field, all collected in one place, and not typically found in

E-BooksDecision Making Under Uncertainty Energy and Power

Decision Making Under Uncertainty Energy and Power

English | PDF | 2002 | 166 Pages | ISBN : 0387954651 | 17.2 MB
In the ideal world, major decisions would be made based on complete and reliable information available to the decision maker. We live in a world of uncertainties, and decisions must be made from information which may be incomplete and may contain uncertainty. The key mathematical question addressed in this volume is "how to make decision in the presence of quantifiable uncertainty." The volume contains articles on model problems of decision making process in the energy and power industry when the available information is noisy and/or incomplete. The major tools used in studying these problems are mathematical modeling and optimization techniques; especially stochastic optimization. These articles are meant to provide an insight into this rapidly developing field, which lies in the intersection of applied statistics, probability, operations research, and economic theory. It is hoped that the present volume will provide entry to newcomers into the field, and stimulation for further research.

Brain, Decision Making, and Mental Health acknowledges that thinking is not a constant phenomenon but varies considerably across cultures. Critical thinking is particularly important in bridging thinking divisions and its applicability across sciences, particularly medical sciences. We see critical thinking as educable and the arts as means to achieve this purpose. We address the multidimensional relationship between thinking and health and related mechanisms. Thinking mainly affects emotion regulation and executive function; in other words, both mental and physical health are related as a function of thoughts. Considering the thinking‐feeling‐emotion regulation/executive function pathway, it would be reasonable to propose thinking capacities‐based interventions to impact emotion regulation and executive function, such as mindfulness and psychotherapy. We review decision-making taking place in integrated and social contexts and discuss the decision-making styles-decision outcomes relation. Finally, artificial thinking and intelligence prepare us for decision-making outside the human mind.
