Paul Spickard, "Race in Mind: Critical Essays"
English | 2015 | ISBN: 0268041482 | PDF | pages: 409 | 3.4 mb
These essays analyze how race affects people's lives and relationships in all settings, from the United States to Great Britain and from Hawaiʻi to Chinese Central Asia. They contemplate the racial positions in various societies of people called Black and people called White, of Asians and Pacific Islanders, and especially of those people whose racial ancestries and identifications are multiple. Here for the first time are Spickard's trenchant analyses of the creation of race in the South Pacific, of DNA testing for racial ancestry, and of the meaning of multiplicity in the age of Barack Obama.

Calculation of Critical Distance in Faulted Meshed Power System
Calculation of Critical Distance in Faulted Meshed Power System by Dr. Hidaia Mahmood Alassouli
English | 2018 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B071G4BTC1 | EPUB | 0.84 Mb
Faults studies form an important part of power system analysis. The problem consists of determining bus voltages and line currents during various types of faults. If the fault location is known the problem can be easily solved. But if the fault location is unkown, it is difficult to solve the problem. If the fault location is known the problem can be easily solved. But if the fault location is unkown, it is difficult to solve the problem. There were attempts to find the critical distance of a fault that will cause certain pre-defined voltage dip at certain bus, and the problem was easy to be solved in radial systems, but yet non of the existing researches could provide proper solution for finding the crtical distance of the fault at certain line that will cause predefined voltage dip magnitude at certain bus.in meshed power system. The paper provided proper solution based in Gauess Seidal to find the critcal distance in meshed power system

E-BooksFrom Stage to Page Critical Reception of Irish Plays in the London Theatre, 1925-1996

From Stage to Page Critical Reception of Irish Plays in the London Theatre, 1925-1996
From Stage to Page: Critical Reception of Irish Plays in the London Theatre, 1925-1996 By Peter James Harris
2011 | 299 Pages | ISBN: 3034302665 | PDF | 3 MB
In December 1921 the Anglo-Irish Treaty was signed, which led to the creation of the Irish Free State and the partition of Ireland the following year. The consequences of that attempt to reconcile the conflicting demands of republicans and unionists alike have dictated the course of Anglo-Irish relations ever since. This book explores how the reception of Irish plays staged in theatres in London's West End serves as a barometer not only of the state of relations between Great Britain and Ireland, but also of the health of the British and Irish theatres respectively. For each of the eight decades following Irish Independence a representative production is set in the context of Anglo-Irish relations in the period and developments in the theatre of the day. The first-night criticism of each production is analysed in the light of its political and artistic context as well as the editorial policy of the publication for which a given critic is writing. The author argues that the relationship between context and criticism is not simply one of cause and effect but, rather, the result of the interplay of a number of cultural, historical, political, artistic and personal factors.

E-BooksThe Idea of Europe A Critical History

The Idea of Europe A Critical History
The Idea of Europe: A Critical History
English | 2021 | ISBN: 1108478107 | 365 Pages | PDF | 2 MB
There is an increasingly widespread sense that Europe is in crisis. Notions of a shared European identity and a common European culture appear to be losing their purchase. This crisis is often seen as a conflict between a cosmopolitan and a nationalist idea of Europe. The reality is, however, considerably more complex, as the long history of the idea of Europe reveals. In The Idea of Europe: A Critical History, Shane Weller explores that history from its origins in classical antiquity to the present day. Drawing on a wide range of sources, he demonstrates that, all too often, seemingly progressive ideas of Europe have been shaped by Eurocentric, culturally supremacist, and even racist assumptions. Seeking to break with this troubling pattern, Weller calls for an idea of Europe shaped by a spirit of self-critique and by an openness to those cultures that have for so long been dismissed as non-European.
