External Corrosion - Introduction to Chemistry and Control By
2004 | 97 Pages | ISBN: 1583213007 | PDF | 15 MB
Corrosion prevention and control is a practical science that allows relatively reliable predictions of corrosive conditions and, more importantly, effective prevention or mitigation of corrosion where economically appropriate. This manual gives the professional water utility operator an understanding of how and why corrosion occurs, how the corrosion potential of an environment is evaluated, and how many of the proven corrosion prevention and control measures operate.

A challenge to the conventional wisdom surrounding financial risk, providing insight into why easy solutions to control the financial system are doomed to fail. Finance plays a key role in the prosperity of the modern world—but it also brings grave dangers. We seek to manage those threats with a vast array of sophisticated mathematical tools and techniques of financial risk management. Too often, though, we fail to address the greatest risk—the peril posed by our own behavior.

Theory of Robot Control By Professor Carlos Canudas de Wit PhD, Professor Bruno Siciliano PhD (auth.), Professor Carlos Canudas de Wit PhD, Professor Bruno Siciliano PhD, Professor Georges Bastin PhD (eds.)

The advent of new high-speed microprocessor technology together with the need for high-performance robots created substantial and realistic place for control theory in the field of robotics. Since the beginning of the 80's, robotics and control theory have greatly benefited from a mutual fertiliza tion. On one hand, robot models (inherently highly nonlinear) have been used as good case studies for exemplifying general concepts of analysis and design of advanced control theory; on the other hand, robot manipulator by using new control algorithms. Fur performance has been improved thermore, many interesting robotics problems, e. g. , in mobile robots, have brought new control theory research lines and given rise to the development of new controllers (time-varying and nonlinear). Robots in control are more than a simple case study. They represent a natural source of inspiration and a great pedagogical tool for research and teaching in control theory. Several advanced control algorithms have been developed for different types of robots (rigid, flexible and mobile), based either on existing control techniques, e. g. , feedback linearization and adaptive control, or on new control techniques that have been developed on purpose. Most of those results, although widely spread, are nowadays rather dispersed in different journals and conference proceedings. The purpose of this book is to collect some of the most fundamental and current results on theory of robot control in a unified framework, by editing, improving and completing previous works in the area.

The Management of Quality and its Control By Charles S. Tapiero (auth.)
1996 | 413 Pages | ISBN: 1461358523 | PDF | 9 MB
Throughout the management literat ure , as elegantly trumpeted by management consultants and gurus, there seems to be a common message: tor a firm to be competitive it must produce quality goods or services. This means that firms, to remain competitive, must at the same time produce at the least cost possible to be price competitive and deli ver high quality products and services. As a result, quality has become strategie overnight, involving all, both in and out of the firm, in the management of its interfaces with clients and the environment. To give quality, suppliers, buyers, operations and marketing managers, as weIl as corporate management must become aware of the mutual relationships and inter-dependencies to which they are subjected, so that they will be able to function as a coherent whole. This involves human relations and people problems, organizational design issues, engineering design options, monitoring and control approaches and, most of all , a managerial philosophy that can integrate, monitor and eontrol the multiple elements which render the firm a viable quality producing and profitable whole. To realize the benefits of quality it is imperative that we design products to be compatible with market needs, market structure, eompetition and, of course, that we are constantly aware and abreast of consumers' tastes and the manufacturing technologies that are continuously emerging.
