The inclusion of this volume in Brill's Transcultural Aesthetics, a book series devoted primarily to multidisciplinary Western and non-Western aesthetics, is indispensable to enrich the nature and scope of contemporary aesthetics. Time and again, many aesthetic controversies have not been adequately addressed, and this has become a common concern among scholars in contemporary aesthetics. This volume therefore seeks to contribute new perspectives to these controversies by shedding light on some of the fresh views among the leading theorists working in the field today.

This book is the first to explore fully the so-called 'contemporary' style that dominated architecture and design from the late 1940s to the end of the 1950s. It was an era of optimism and confidence, where new ideas in architecture and design flourished alongside the emergent consumer culture.Emanating mainly from the USA, the 'contemporary' style was fresh and liberating, manifesting itself in the picture window and the open plan, in new forms of furniture from Scandinavia and stylish light fittings from Italy, and most tellingly in the contemporary kitchen with its fitted units and mod-con appliances. This book examines the fresh and liberated design ideas of this buoyant era with an acute eye and open mind.

E-BooksContemporary Science Teaching Approaches Promoting Conceptual Understanding in Science

Contemporary Science Teaching Approaches Promoting Conceptual Understanding in Science
Free Download Funda Ornek, "Contemporary Science Teaching Approaches: Promoting Conceptual Understanding in Science "
English | ISBN: 1617356085 | 2012 | 236 pages | PDF | 4 MB
Contemporary science teaching approaches focus on fostering students to construct new scientific knowledge as a process of inquiry rather than having them act as passive learners memorizing stated scientific facts. Although this perspective of teaching science is clearly emphasized in the National Research Council's National Science Education Standards (NRC, 1996), it is however challenging to achieve in the classroom. Science teaching approaches should enhance students' conceptual understanding of scientific concepts which can be later utilized by students in deeper recognition of real world (Marsak & Janouskova, 2007). This book identifies and describes several different contemporary science teaching approaches and presents recent applications of these approaches in promoting interest among students. It promotes conceptual understanding of science concepts among them as well. This book identifies pertinent issues related to strategies of teaching science and describes best practice The chapters in this book are culmination of years of extensive research and development efforts to understand more about how to teach science by the distinguished scholars and practicing teachers.

E-BooksContemporary Photography as Collaboration

Contemporary Photography as Collaboration
Free Download Contemporary Photography as Collaboration
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031414438 | 364 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 29 MB
This book explores a spectrum of contemporary photographic practices across the fields of image-making, curating, archiving, teaching, community development and activism that have envisioned photography as ontologically and ethically collaborative. By looking specifically into the contexts where collaborative projects are produced and shown, and into the dialogical relation to the people they engage with -in hospitals, in prisons, in working-class neighbourhoods, with indigenous people, refugees, women, persons experiencing homelessness, young people- the contributions from practitioners, scholars, and curators show participatory practices to create the conditions for building new subjectivities, or making visible a multiplicity of identities, thus opening up a new politics of visibility. Therefore, this book specifically addresses the political, counter-cultural dimension of collaborative projects, but also their subversiveness in relation to dominant practices within the field of photography: this includes a reinvention of the position of the photographer -in turns facilitator or project leader- of curating and exhibition models, of archiving methodologies, of photographic education and of market practices.

English | 2024 | ISBN: 1786307456 | 272 Pages | PDF, EPUB (True) | 17 MB
At the center of current debates surrounding the social function of museums, questions concerning museum activities and the participation of both inhabitants and the public arise. In 2019, these questions were the subject of many heated debates at the 34th General Assembly of ICOM in Kyoto, which intended to propose a new definition of the museum. As the representations of the tensions between Universalist and Communitarian approaches are not only largely dependent on the historical and socio-political contexts of the various countries concerned, a generational angle must also be considered. It thus seems totally anachronistic to try to defend a dichotomous vision that is far too simplistic.

E-BooksContemporary Austrian Politics

Contemporary Austrian Politics
Free Download Contemporary Austrian Politics By Volkmar Lauber
1996 | 304 Pages | ISBN: 081332890X | PDF | 30 MB
Tracing the disruption of the "post-war pattern" in Austria, this work explores the recent dramatic evolution in that country's formerly tranquil political system. The contributors follow the decline of the Socialist and Conservative parties and the rise of the "reformed" right-wing Freedom Party and newly-emerged Green and Liberal parties. Austria has also plunged into the international arena, abandoning its long-held neutrality and joining the European Union. Reflecting on the end of an era of tranquillity - and rigidity - the contributors assess the implications of sweeping changes on the country's polity, economy and society.

E-BooksBeing Catholic in the Contemporary Philippines Young People Reinterpreting Religion

Being Catholic in the Contemporary Philippines Young People Reinterpreting Religion
Free Download Being Catholic in the Contemporary Philippines: Young People Reinterpreting Religion By Jayeel Serrano Cornelio
2016 | 186 Pages | ISBN: 1138803340 | PDF | 2 MB
This book, based on extensive original research, examines the nature of Catholicism in the contemporary Philippines. It shows how Catholicism is apparently flourishing, with good attendance at Sunday Masses, impressive religious processions and flourishing charismatic groups, and with interventions by the Catholic hierarchy in national and local politics. However, focusing in particular on the beliefs and practices of young people, the book shows that young people are often adopting a different, more individualised approach to Catholicism, which is frequently out of step with the official position. It considers the features of this: a more personal and experiential relationship with God; a new approach to morality, in which right living is seen as more important than right believing; and a critical view of what is seen as the Catholic hierarchy's misguidedness. The book argues that this reinterpreting of religion by young people has the potential to alter fundamentally the nature of Catholicism in the Philippines, but that, nevertheless, young people's new approach involves a solid, enduring commitment and a strong view of their own Catholic, religious identity.
