English | May 22, 2023 | ISBN: 8400707796 | 426 pages | MOBI | 1.53 Mb
Professor Stephen A. Cook is a pioneer of the theory of computational complexity. His work on NP-completeness and the P vs. NP problem remains a central focus of this field. Cook won the 1982 Turing Award for "his advancement of our understanding of the complexity of computation in a significant and profound way." This volume includes a selection of seminal papers embodying the work that led to this award, exemplifying Cook's synthesis of ideas and techniques from logic and the theory of computation including NP-completeness, proof complexity, bounded arithmetic, and parallel and space-bounded computation. These papers are accompanied by contributed articles by leading researchers in these areas, which convey to a general reader the importance of Cook's ideas and their enduring impact on the research community. The book also contains biographical material, Cook's Turing Award lecture, and an interview. Together these provide a portrait of Cook as a recognized leader and innovator in mathematics and computer science, as well as a gentle mentor and colleague.

Logic and Complexity
Free Download Logic and Complexity by Richard Lassaigne , Michel Rougemont
English | PDF | 2004 | 361 Pages | ISBN : 1852335653 | 30.2 MB
Logic and Complexity looks at basic logic as it is used in Computer Science, and provides students with a logical approach to Complexity theory. With plenty of exercises, this book presents classical notions of mathematical logic, such as decidability, completeness and incompleteness, as well as new ideas brought by complexity theory such as NP-completeness, randomness and approximations, providing a better understanding for efficient algorithmic solutions to problems.

Computability, Complexity, and Languages Fundamentals of Theoretical Computer Science
Free Download Computability, Complexity, and Languages: Fundamentals of Theoretical Computer Science (Computer Science and Scientific Computing) by Martin Davis, Ron Sigal, Elaine J. Weyuker
English | February 17, 1994 | ISBN: 0122063821 | 609 pages | EPUB | 11 Mb
Computability, Complexity, and Languages is an introductory text that covers the key areas of computer science, including recursive function theory, formal languages, and automata. It assumes a minimal background in formal mathematics. The book is divided into five parts: Computability, Grammars and Automata, Logic, Complexity, and Unsolvability.Computability theory is introduced in a manner that makes maximum use of previous programming experience, including a "universal" program that takes up less than a page. The number of exercises included has more than tripled.Automata theory, computational logic, and complexity theory are presented in a flexible manner, and can be covered in a variety of different arrangements.

'he year was 1889. The French physicist-mathematician Henry T Poincare could not believe his eyes. He had worked for months on one of the most famous problems in science-the problem of three bodies moving around one another under mutual gravita tional attraction-and what he was seeing dismayed and trou bled him. Since Newton's time it had been assumed that the problem was solvable. All that was needed was a little ingenuity and considerable perseverance, but Poincare saw that this was not the case. Strange, unexplainable things happened when he delved into the problem; it was not solvable after all. Poincare was shocked and dismayed by the result-so disheartened he left the problem and went on to other things. What Poincare was seeing was the first glimpse of a phe nomenon we now call chaos. With his discovery the area lay dormant for almost 90 years. Not a single book was written about the phenomenon, and only a trickle of papers appeared. Then, about 1980 a resurgence of interest began, and thousands of papers appeared along with dozens of books. The new science of chaos was born and has attracted as much attention in recent years as breakthroughs in superconductivity and superstring theory.

The Complexity and Progression of Black Representation in Film and Television
Free Download David L. Moody, "The Complexity and Progression of Black Representation in Film and Television"
English | ISBN: 0739188372 | 2016 | 168 pages | EPUB | 10 MB
The Complexity and Progression of Black Representation in Film and Television examines the intricacies of race, representation, Black masculinity, sexuality, class, and color in American cinema and television. Black images on the silver screen date back to the silent film era, yet these films and television programs presented disturbing images of African American culture, and regrettably, many early films and small screen programs portrayed Black characters in demeaning and stereotypical roles. In order to fully analyze the roles of Black actors and actresses in film and television, Moody addresses the following issues: the historical significance of the term "race films"; female Black identities and constructs; queerness and Black masculinity; Black male identities; and Black buffoonery in film and television.
