English | 2023 | ISBN: 1470471280 | 432 Pages | PDF | 5 MB
The first part of the book is an elementary but thorough exposition of the concepts of homological algebra, starting from categorical language up to the construction of derived functors and spectral sequences. A full proof of the celebrated Freyd-Mitchell theorem on the embeddings of small Abelian categories is included.

English | 2023 | ISBN: 1470471272 | 392 Pages | PDF | 4 MB
This book provides an introduction to classical methods in commutative algebra and their applications to number theory, algebraic geometry, and computational algebra. The use of number theory as a motivating theme throughout the book provides a rich and interesting context for the material covered. In addition, many results are reinterpreted from a geometric perspective, providing further insight and motivation for the study of commutative algebra. The content covers the classical theory of Noetherian rings, including primary decomposition and dimension theory, topological methods such as completions, computational techniques, local methods and multiplicity theory, as well as some topics of a more arithmetic nature, including the theory of Dedekind rings, lattice embeddings, and Witt vectors. Homological methods appear in the author's sequel, Homological Methods in Commutative Algebra.

E-BooksCommutative Algebra An Introduction

Commutative Algebra An Introduction

English | 2016 | ISBN: 1944534601 | 243 Pages | EPUB (True) | 8 MB
The purpose of this book is twofold: to present some basic ideas in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry and to introduce some interesting topics of current research centered around the themes of Gröbner bases, resultants and syzygies. There are many good introductory texts on commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, and the intention of this book is to be a supplement to those texts with the aim of pointing the reader toward possible future research directions. The presentation of the material combines definitions and proofs with an emphasis on concrete examples. The authors illustrate the use of software such as Mathematica and Singular. The design of the text in each chapter consists of two parts: the fundamentals and the applications, which make it suitable for courses of various lengths, levels, and topics based on the mathematical background of the students. The fundamentals portion of the chapter is intended for an average graduate student to read with minimal outside assistance, and to learn some of the most useful tools in commutative algebra. The applications of the chapter are to provide a glimpse of the advanced mathematical research where the topics and results are related to the material presented in the fundamentals. In the applications, we allow ourselves to present a number of results from a wide range of sources without detailed proofs. The applications portion of the chapter is suitable for a reader who knows a little commutative algebra and algebraic geometry already, and serves as a guide to some interesting research topics. This book should be thought of as an introduction to more advanced texts and research topics. The novelty of this book is that the material presented here is a unique combination of the essential methods and the current research results. The goal is to equip readers with the fundamental classical algebra and geometry tools, ignite their research interests, and initiate some potential research projects in the related areas.

E-BooksThe Use of Ultraproducts in Commutative Algebra

The Use of Ultraproducts in Commutative Algebra
The Use of Ultraproducts in Commutative Algebra by Hans Schoutens
English | PDF | 2010 | 215 Pages | ISBN : 3642133673 | 2.6 MB
In spite of some recent applications of ultraproducts in algebra, they remain largely unknown to commutative algebraists, in part because they do not preserve basic properties such as Noetherianity. This work wants to make a strong case against these prejudices. More precisely, it studies ultraproducts of Noetherian local rings from a purely algebraic perspective, as well as how they can be used to transfer results between the positive and zero characteristics, to derive uniform bounds, to define tight closure in characteristic zero, and to prove asymptotic versions of homological conjectures in mixed characteristic. Some of these results are obtained using variants called chromatic products, which are often even Noetherian. This book, neither assuming nor using any logical formalism, is intended for algebraists and geometers, in the hope of popularizing ultraproducts and their applications in algebra.

Commutative Semigroups
Commutative Semigroups by P. A. Grillet
English | PDF | 2001 | 443 Pages | ISBN : 0792370678 | 37.3 MB
The first book on commutative semigroups was Redei's The theory of .finitely generated commutative semigroups, published in Budapest in 1956. Subsequent years have brought much progress. By 1975 the structure of finite commutative semigroups was fairly well understood. Recent results have perfected this understanding and extended it to finitely generated semigroups.

E-BooksCommutative Algebra Volume II

Commutative Algebra Volume II
Commutative Algebra: Volume II by Oscar Zariski , Pierre Samuel
English | PDF | 1960 | 425 Pages | ISBN : 3662277530 | 41.9 MB
This second volume of our treatise on commutative algebra deals largely with three basic topics, which go beyond the more or less classical material of volume I and are on the whole of a more advanced nature and a more recent vintage. These topics are: (a) valuation theory; (b) theory of polynomial and power series rings (including generalizations to graded rings and modules); © local algebra. Because most of these topics have either their source or their best motivation in algebraic geom etry, the algebro-geometric connections and applications of the purely algebraic material are constantly stressed and abundantly scattered through out the exposition.

English | PDF(True) | 2011 | 490 Pages | ISBN : 1441969896 | 4.5 MB
Commutative algebra is a rapidly growing subject that is developing in many different directions. This volume presents several of the most recent results from various areas related to both Noetherian and non-Noetherian commutative algebra.
