E-BooksStructures of Coastal Resilience

Structures of Coastal Resilience
Structures of Coastal Resilience by Catherine Seavitt Nordenson
English | PDF (True ) | 2018 | 262 Pages | ISBN : 1610918584 | 115.2 MB
Structures of Coastal Resilience presents new strategies for creative and collaborative approaches to coastal planning for climate change. In the face of sea level rise and an increased risk of flooding from storm surge, we must become less dependent on traditional approaches to flood control that have relied on levees, sea walls, and other forms of hard infrastructure. But what are alternative approaches for designers and planners facing the significant challenge of strengthening their communities to adapt to uncertain climate futures?

E-BooksRiver and Coastal Engineering Hydraulics, Water Resources and Coastal Engineering

River and Coastal Engineering Hydraulics, Water Resources and Coastal Engineering
River and Coastal Engineering: Hydraulics, Water Resources and Coastal Engineering
English | 2022 | ISBN: 3031050568 | 408 Pages | PDF (True) | 17 MB
This book deals with important topics of current interest, such as climate change, floods, drought, and hydrological extremes. The impact of climate change on water resources is drawing worldwide attention in these days; water resources in many countries are already stressed and climate change along with burgeoning population, rising standard of living, and increasing demand are adding to the stress. Further, river basins are becoming less resilient to climatic vagaries. Fundamental to addressing these issues is hydrological modelling which is covered in these books. Further, integrated water resources management is vital to ensure water and food security. Integral to the management is groundwater and solute transport. The books encompass tools that will be useful to mitigate the adverse consequences of natural disasters.

Geophysical Approach to Marine Coastal Ecology The Case of Iriomote Island, Japan
Geophysical Approach to Marine Coastal Ecology: The Case of Iriomote Island, Japan by Shinya Shimokawa
English | EPUB | 2020 | 271 Pages | ISBN : 9811511284 | 113.50 MB
This book presents recent results of collaborative studies in geophysics and ecology, focusing on the relationship between the physical environment and the distribution of the marine coastal ecosystems. The study area, the Sakiyamawan-Amitoriwan nature conservation area in Iriomote Island of Japan, is the only oceanic nature conservation area in the country.

E-BooksCoastal Hypoxia Consequences for Living Resources and Ecosystems

Coastal Hypoxia Consequences for Living Resources and Ecosystems
Coastal Hypoxia: Consequences for Living Resources and Ecosystems By
2001 | 465 Pages | ISBN: 0875902723 | PDF | 9 MB
Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Coastal and Estuarine Studies Series.Hypoxia is a condition that occurs when dissolved oxygen falls below the level necessary to sustain most animal life. In U.S. coastal waters, and in the entire western Atlantic, we find the largest hypoxic zone in the northern Gulf of Mexico on the Louisiana/Texas continental shelf. The area affected, which is about the size of the state of New Jersey at its maximal extent, has increased since regular measurements began in 1985. Sediment cores from the hypoxic zone also show that algal production and deposition, as well as oxygen stress, were much lower earlier in the 190Os and that significant increases occurred in the latter half of the twentieth century. We publish this book against the background of such measurements, and to review how the developing and expanding hypoxic zone has affected living resources on this continental shelf.Content: Chapter 1 Hypoxia in the Northern Gulf of Mexico: Description, Causes and Change (pages 1-36): Nancy N.
