E-BooksSystemic Circular Economy Solutions for Fiber Reinforced Composites

Systemic Circular Economy Solutions for Fiber Reinforced Composites
Systemic Circular Economy Solutions for Fiber Reinforced Composites
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031223519 | 472 Pages | PDF (True) | 14 MB
This open access book provides an overview of the work undertaken within the FiberEUse project, which developed solutions enhancing the profitability of composite recycling and reuse in value-added products, with a cross-sectorial approach. Glass and carbon fiber reinforced polymers, or composites, are increasingly used as structural materials in many manufacturing sectors like transport, constructions and energy due to their better lightweight and corrosion resistance compared to metals. However, composite recycling is still a challenge since no significant added value in the recycling and reprocessing of composites is demonstrated. FiberEUse developed innovative solutions and business models towards sustainable Circular Economy solutions for post-use composite-made products. Three strategies are presented, namely mechanical recycling of short fibers, thermal recycling of long fibers and modular car parts design for sustainable disassembly and remanufacturing. The validation of the FiberEUse approach within eight industrial demonstrators shows the potentials towards new Circular Economy value-chains for composite materials.

Biotic Resources Circular Bioeconomy Perspective
Biotic Resources; Circular Bioeconomy Perspective
by Thallada Bhaskar

English | 2023 | ISBN: 1032371005 | 253 pages | True PDF | 13.17 MB
This reference book provides advanced knowledge on sustainable biogenic waste management. It covers innovative waste processing technologies to produce biofuels, energy products, and biochemicals. To create a circular bioeconomy, it is imperative to develop processes where the waste generated through one process acts as a feedstock for the other. This book discusses the latest developments in biochemical and thermochemical methods of conversion and covers the potential of different kinds of biomass in more decentralized biorefineries. It describes sustainable solutions for a greener supplement to fossil resources. The book is meant for microbiologists, chemists, and biotechnologists.

E-BooksMaterial Matters Developing Business for a Circular Economy

Material Matters Developing Business for a Circular Economy
English | 2022 | ISBN: 1032193271 | 273 pages | True PDF | 45.56 MB
Our planet is a closed system with limited material resources, yet our current economic model is designed in a one-way direction from resource extraction to disposal, leading to resource depletion. This book proposes a new economic model, offering an alternative to this linear 'take-make-waste' economy.
Material Matters shows a way of creating a circular economy by using the unlimited resources we have: renewable energy, data and intelligence. It describes a system based on circular business models centred on selling performance rather than ownership, designing products and buildings as resource banks and equipping products with a 'material passport' to ensure their usability for future generations. Businesses thereby become custodians of materials, rather than consumers of materials and sellers of products. The book evokes the vision of a radically new economic model based on a compelling narrative, supported with cases that have been developed in conjunction with major companies, for example, convincing Philips to sell light instead of lamps, saving energy and materials by creating a whole new business model, a case which has become iconic for the circular economy.

E-BooksBuilding Better - Less - Different Circular Construction and Circular Economy

Building Better - Less - Different Circular Construction and Circular Economy
English | 2022 | ISBN: 978-3035621099 | 160 pages | PDF | 227.94 MB
Sustainability has advanced to become an overarching concern of daily life. At the same time, its ways and means are far from clear. As a holistic praxis, sustainability must combine technical and material as well as social, economic and ecological strategies that all too often have competing aims and priorities and complex interactions. In no other field can these factors and interactions be better observed, addressed and influenced than in architecture and building. Organising, planning and designing the built environment uniquely reflects the spectrum of sustainable action as a synthesis of gained experience, problem-solving and forward-looking strategies.
Each volume of "Building Better – Less – Different" examines two fundamental areas of sustainability and explores their specific dynamics and interactions. After an introductory overview, innovative methods and current developments are described and analysed in in-depth essays, international case studies and pointed commentaries. The sustainability criteria of efficiency ("better"), sufficiency ("less") and consistency ("different") form the framework for each book. Together, the five planned volumes provide a systematic and up-to-date compendium of sustainable building.
