Depictions of Children and the Adults Journey in the Arts
Free Download Margarita Georgieva, "Depictions of Children and the Adults Journey in the Arts"
English | ISBN: 1527500233 | 2017 | 102 pages | PDF | 416 KB
Why do adults write about the child and why do they choose to depict children? This book looks at various examples from literature, art and film to analyze aspects of adults outlook on the child, and what it tells us about the adult. It pays special attention to the eye motif, as well as looking, watching and representing children. It outlines what might become an interesting topic of analysis for other studies, namely, the idea that the adults journey to self-actualization passes through writing for and about children. Rather than drawing major conclusions, the book opens venues for further thought on the topics treated. It also brings together works that might not have been compared or contrasted before, so that the reader can acquire a broader view of the threads that connect literature, art and film.

E-BooksContemporary Research and Analysis on the Children of Prisoners

Contemporary Research and Analysis on the Children of Prisoners
Free Download Liz Gordon, "Contemporary Research and Analysis on the Children of Prisoners"
English | ISBN: 1527503593 | 2018 | 290 pages | PDF | 1301 KB
In March 2017, researchers, advocates and NGOs from twelve countries came together in Rotorua, New Zealand, for the first conference of the International Coalition for the children of incarcerated parents. The Coalition had been formed the previous year to recognise that similar issues faced the children of prisoners all over the world. From the first arrest until release from prison, the system is stacked against the child. Justice systems are all about punishing individuals, and are, as one conference speaker noted, child blind. The papers in this collection cover many of the themes in the wider literature on the children of prisoners. Advocacy themes include moving towards child-friendly prison systems, using mass incarceration to influence wider social change, the effects of pre-trial detention on families, the particular issues in Hawaii, and how arrest and detention procedures harm children. A set of papers reflect contemporary research and analysis on the children of prisoners. One paper sets out 12 guiding principles for working with children and families of the incarcerated. Others look at how babies and young children react to parental imprisonment, as well as children who are resilient in the face of it. Two papers consider women: one on mothers involuntarily committed to psychiatric hospital and the other examining the difficulties in maintaining family ties when a mother is sent to prison. Another contribution looks at an initiative between university and community set up to expand knowledge and inspire change for the children of prisoners. One paper examines the difficult issue of supporting families where a parent has been convicted of a sexual offence. Also discussed in this volume are the Tyro programme that works to break the cycles of self-destruction for the children of prisoners and case studies of prison staff making a difference in child and family visiting.

Children of Coercive Control
Free Download Evan Stark, "Children of Coercive Control "
English | ISBN: 0197587097 | 2023 | 400 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
Children of Coercive Control extends Evan Stark's path-breaking analysis of interpersonal violence to children, showing that coercive control is the most important cause and context of child abuse and child homicide outside a war zone, as well as of the sexual abuse, denigration, exploitation, isolation and subordination of children. The book provides a working model of the coercive control of children and illustrates its dynamics and consequences with dramatic cases drawn from the headlines and Dr. Stark's forensic practice. The cases include those in which the coercive control of children runs in tandem with the coercive control of women, where children are "weaponized" in the coercive control of their mother and cases where abused mothers harm their children to survive or protect them from worse.

English | ISBN: 3111009637 | 2023 | 340 pages | EPUB, PDF | 2 MB + 4 MB
Children and youth belong to one of the most vulnerable groups in societies. This was the case even before the current humanitarian crises around the world which led millions of people and families to flee from wars, terror, poverty and exploitation. Minors have been denied human rights such as access to education, food and health services. They have been kidnapped, sold, manipulated, mutilated, killed, and injured. This has been and continues to be the case in both developed and developing countries, and it does not look as if the situation will improve in the near future. Rather, current geopolitical developments, political and economic uncertainties and instabilities seem to be increasing the vulnerability of minors, especially in the wars and armed conflicts currently being waged not only in Europe, but on almost every continent. How can risks children and youth are exposed to in times of transition be reduced? Which role do state agencies, non-governmental organisations, as well as children's coping strategies play in mitigating the vulnerabilities of minors?
