Changing Difference The Feminine and the Question of Philosophy
Free Download Changing Difference: The Feminine and the Question of Philosophy By Catherine Malabou
2011 | 176 Pages | ISBN: 0745651097 | PDF | 9 MB
In the post-feminist age the fact that 'woman' finds herself deprived of her 'essence' only confirms, paradoxically, a very ancient state of affairs: 'woman' has never been able to define herself any other way than in terms of the violence done to her. In this work Malabou begins with philosophy, asking: what is the life of a woman philosopher?

Sustaining Natural Resources in a Changing Environment
Free Download Linda Hantrais, "Sustaining Natural Resources in a Changing Environment "
English | ISBN: 1138361704 | 2018 | 132 pages | EPUB | 1469 KB
Climate change and environmental degradation have intensified the pressures on crucial resources such as food and water security and air quality. In this collection, academic researchers and practitioners who have lived and worked in countries as geographically and culturally diverse as Brazil, China, India, Ghana, Palestine, Uganda and Venezuela draw on their wide-ranging international and inter-sectoral experience to offer valuable comparative insights into the relationship between research and evidence-based policy for sustaining natural resources. Their contributions provide a novel mix of disciplinary perspectives ranging across geography, ecology, social policy, the political economy, philosophy, international development, engineering technology, architecture and urban planning. They examine the institutions involved in generating and mediating evidence about the sustainability of natural resources in a changing environment, and the different methodologies employed in collecting and assessing evidence, informing policy and contributing to governance. The authors demonstrate not only that social science evidence on governance and policy implementation to sustain natural resources must complement natural science inputs, but also that local communities must be an integral part of any programme development.

Prussians, Nazis and Peaceniks Changing images of Germany in International Relations
Free Download Jens Steffek, "Prussians, Nazis and Peaceniks: Changing images of Germany in International Relations"
English | ISBN: 152613571X | 2020 | 256 pages | EPUB | 562 KB
Germany looms large in international politics, far larger than its size and population would suggest. From images of Prussian militarism, to the Holocaust, the Nuremberg trials, and the fall of the Berlin Wall, changing perceptions of Germany in the twentieth century not only determined how Germans were seen and treated, but they influenced the concepts that scholars and practitioners used to theorise international relations in the English-speaking world. Today, 'civil power' Germany, an economic giant but a military dwarf, is seen as a puzzling aberration from normal state behaviour.

Our Changing World-View Ten Lectures on Recent Movements of Thought in Science, Economics, Education, Literature and Ph

English | ISBN: 1776145550 | 2021 | 270 pages | EPUB | 770 KB
Johannesburg was still a brash mining town, better known for the production of wealth than knowledge, and the University of the Witwatersrand a mere ten years old when, in 1932, these ten lectures were delivered under the auspices of the University Philosophical Society. They portrayed the ideas of the university's leading academics of the day, and the programme of lectures reveals a studied effort to introduce an element of bipartisan political representation between English and Afrikaner in South Africa by including Wits' first principal, Jan Hofmeyr, and politician, D.F. Malan, as discussion chairs. Yet, no black intellectuals were represented and, indeed, the politics of racial segregation bursts through the text only in a few of the contributions. For the most part, race is alluded to only in passing.

Author: Mike Rose
Narrator: Tom Mailey

The final work from one of the most beloved voices in American education explores stories and lessons of transformative experiences in education. For more than a generation, American education has been structured as though it was built of and for concepts, not people. This has transformed education into a vast assessment, scoring, and ranking enterprise; a sales platform for high-tech entrepreneurs; and a fiercely competitive arena of advantage and status that grinds the poor and propels the middle class into debt. In When the Light Goes On, educator Mike Rose features the stories of people of all ages and backgrounds to illuminate how education has added meaning to their lives. When the Light Goes On helps us dig through the discord and fragmentation of school politics and policy to reclaim the mind and heart of education. Through various students' stories and his own, Rose provides an urgent reminder of the core purpose of education: to learn about ourselves and the world around us, to spark new interests, and to experience with guidance both the fulfillment and the uncertainty of exploring our limits-all in the service of creating a meaningful life.
