The Breaking of Bread and the Breaking of Boundaries A Study of the Metaphor of Bread in the Gospel of Matthew
Minkyu Lee, "The Breaking of Bread and the Breaking of Boundaries: A Study of the Metaphor of Bread in the Gospel of Matthew "
English | ISBN: 1433127687 | 2015 | 230 pages | PDF | 967 KB
This book investigates the Matthean use of bread and the breaking of bread in light of cognitive conceptual metaphor, which are not only intertwined within Matthew's narrative Descriptions but also function to represent Matthew's communal identity and ideological vision. The metaphor of bread and its cognitive concept implicitly connect to Israel's indigenous sense of identity and religious imagination, while integrating the socio-religious context and the identity of Matthean community through the metaphoric action: . While using this metaphor as a narrative strategy, Matthew not only keeps the Jewish indigenous socio-religious heritage but also breaks down multiple boundaries of religion, ethnicity, gender, class, and the false prejudice in order to establish an alternative identity and ideological vision. From this perspective, this book presents how the Matthean functions to reveal the identity of Matthew's community formative Judaism and the Roman Empire. In particular, the book investigates the metaphor of as a source of Matthew's rhetorical claim that represents its ideological vision for an alternative community beyond the socio-religious boundaries. The book also reviews Matthean contexts by postcolonial theories - and - subverting and deconstructing the hegemony of the dominant groups of formative Judaism and the imperial ideology of Rome.

E-BooksBreaking Laws Violence and Civil Disobedience in Protest

Breaking Laws Violence and Civil Disobedience in Protest
PROF. Isabelle Sommier, PROF. Graeme Hayes, Isabelle Ollitrault, "Breaking Laws: Violence and Civil Disobedience in Protest"
English | 2019 | ISBN: 9089649344 | PDF | pages: 275 | 1.6 mb
Breaking Laws: Violence and Civil Disobedience in Protest questions the complex relationship between social movements and violence through two contrasted lenses; first through the short-lived radical left wing post '68 revolutionary violence, and secondly in the present diffusion of civil disobedience actions, often at the border between non-violence and violence. This book shows how and why violence occurs or does not, and what different meanings it can take. The short-lived extreme left revolutionary groups that grew out of May '68 and the opposition to the Vietnam War (such as the German Red Army Faction, the Italian Red Brigades, and the Japanese Red Army) are without any doubt on the violent side. More ambiguous are the burgeoning contemporary forms of "civil" disobedience, breaking the law with the aim of changing it. In theory, these efforts are associated with non-violence and self-restraint. In practice, the line is more difficult to trace, as much depends on how political players define and frame non-violence and political legitimacy.

E-BooksThe Bad News Bears in Breaking Training

The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training
The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training By Josh Wilker, Sean Howe
2011 | 128 Pages | ISBN: 1593764189 | PDF | 2 MB
In 1977, The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training had a moment in the sun. A glowing junk sculpture of American genres—sports flick, coming-of-age story, family melodrama, after-school special, road narrative—the film cashed in on the previous year's success of its predecessor, The Bad News Bears. Arguing against the sequel's dismissal as a cultural afterthought, Josh Wilker lovingly rescues from the oblivion of cinema history a quintessential expression of American resilience and joy.Rushed into theaters by Paramount when the beleaguered film industry was suffering from “acute sequelitis," the (undeniably flawed) movie miraculously transcended its limitations to become a gathering point for heroic imagery drawn from American mythology. Considered in context, the film's unreasonable optimism, rooted in its characters' sincere desire to keep playing, is a powerful response to the political, economic, and social stresses of the late 1970s.To Wilker's surprise, despite repeated viewings, The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training continues to move him. Its huge heart makes it not only the ultimate fantasy of the baseball-obsessed American boy, but a memorable iteration of that barbed vision of pure sunshine itself, the American dream.
