E-BooksThe Subcritical Brain A Synergy of Segregated Neural Circuits in Memory, Cognition and Sensorimotor Control

The Subcritical Brain A Synergy of Segregated Neural Circuits in Memory, Cognition and Sensorimotor Control
English | 2021 | ISBN: 9811233098 | 298 pages | True (PDF EPUB) | 18.42 MB
Have over a hundred years of brain research revealed all its secrets? This book is motivated by a realization that cortical structure and behavior can be explained by a synergy of seemingly different mathematical notions: global attractors, which define non-invertible neural firing rate dynamics, random graphs, which define connectivity of neural circuit, and prime numbers, which define the dimension and category of cortical operation. Quantum computation is shown to ratify the main conclusion of the book: loosely connected small neural circuits facilitate higher information storage and processing capacities than highly connected large circuits. While these essentially separate mathematical notions have not been commonly involved in the evolution of neuroscience, they are shown in this book to be strongly inter-related in the cortical arena. Furthermore, neurophysiological experiments, as well as observations of natural behavior and evidence found in medical testing of neurologically impaired patients, are shown to support, and to be supported by the mathematical findings.

E-BooksThe Complex Interplay Between Gut-Brain, Gut-Liver, and Liver-Brain Axes

The Complex Interplay Between Gut-Brain, Gut-Liver, and Liver-Brain Axes
English | 2021 | ISBN: 0128219270 | 265 pages | pdf, epub | 12.97 MB
The Complex Interplay Between Gut-Brain, Gut-Liver, and Liver-Brain Axes provides current and wide-ranging information in the field of gastrointestinal, liver, and brain interactions that can be used in resolving important clinical issues. This book is systematically split into three distinct sections. The first section introduces the pathophysiology of the gut-brain connection, including the causative effect of the interactions between the gut and brain in gastrointestinal and psychiatric/neurological disorders, and the role of serotonin and its pathways in gastrointestinal disorders. The second section examines the pathophysiology of the gut-liver connection along with the interactions between gut microbiota and liver in chronic liver diseases, with special focus on the role of serotonin and its pathways in hepatic fibrogenesis. Finally, the third section describes the pathophysiology of the liver-brain connection, including the role of gut microbiota in hepatic encephalopathy, as well as dietary and therapeutic interventions that target the gut microbiome.

Subconsciousness Automatic Behavior and the Brain (True PDF)
English | 2021 | ISBN: 0231201273 | 129 pages | True PDF | 7.91 MB
We are conscious of only a small fraction of our lives. Because the brain constantly receives an enormous quantity of information, we need to be able to do things without thinking about them-to act in "autopilot" mode. Automatic behaviors-the vast majority of our activities-occur without our conscious awareness, or subconsciously. Yet the physiological basis of subconsciousness remains poorly understood, despite its vast importance for physical and mental health.

Living with Mild Brain Injury
English | 2021 | ISBN: 0367524082 | 199 Pages | PDF | 3 MB
This important book presents a unique, personal account of the impact a mild traumatic brain injury can have. It tells the story of Pauline, who was 33 when a late football tackle caused a bleed in her brain which went undiscovered for 18 months. The account includes descriptions of hidden symptoms of concussion and post-concussion syndrome, pitfalls in diagnoses, the uneven progress of recovery and the effect of the varied reactions which others have to an acquired brain injury.

Brain, Mind and Consciousness Advances in Neuroscience Research
Brain, Mind and Consciousness: Advances in Neuroscience Research by Petr Bob
English | PDF | 2011 | 145 Pages | ISBN : 1461404355 | 1.7 MB
Neuropsychological research on the neural basis of behavior generally asserts that brain mechanisms ultimately suffice to explain all psychologically described phenomena. This assumption stems from the idea that the brain consists entirely of material particles and fields, and that all causal mechanisms relevant to neuroscience can be formulated solely in terms of properties of these elements.
