Ecological Borderlands Body, Nature, and Spirit in Chicana Feminism
Christina Holmes, "Ecological Borderlands: Body, Nature, and Spirit in Chicana Feminism "
English | ISBN: 025208201X | 2016 | 216 pages | EPUB | 5 MB
Environmental practices among Mexican American woman have spurred a reconsideration of ecofeminism among Chicana feminists. Christina Holmes examines ecological themes across the arts, Chicana activism, and direct action groups to reveal how Chicanas can craft alternative models for ecofeminist processes. Holmes revisits key debates to analyze issues surrounding embodiment, women's connections to nature, and spirituality's role in ecofeminist philosophy and practice. By doing so, she challenges Chicanas to escape the narrow frameworks of the past in favor of an inclusive model of environmental feminism that alleviates Western biases. Holmes uses readings of theory, elaborations of ecological narratives in Chicana cultural productions, histories of human and environmental rights struggles in the Southwest, and a description of an activist exemplar to underscore the importance of living with decolonializing feminist commitment in body, nature, and spirit.

Working Women into the Borderlands
Working Women into the Borderlands By Sonia Hernández, Sterling D. Evans
2014 | 256 Pages | ISBN: 1623490405 | PDF | 6 MB
InWorking Women into the Borderlands, author Sonia Hernández sheds light on how women's labor was shaped by US capital in the northeast region of Mexico and how women's labor activism simultaneously shaped the nature of foreign investment and relations between Mexicans and Americans. As capital investments fueled the growth of heavy industries in cities and ports such as Monterrey and Tampico, women's work complemented and strengthened their male counterparts' labor in industries which were historically male-dominated. As Hernández reveals, women laborers were expected to maintain their “proper" place in society, and work environments were in fact gendered and class-based. Yet, these prescribed notions of class and gender were frequently challenged as women sought to improve their livelihoods by using everyday forms of negotiation including collective organizing, labor arbitration boards, letter writing, creating unions, assuming positions ofconfianza(“trustworthiness"), and by migrating to urban centers and/or crossing into Texas. Drawing extensively on bi-national archival sources, newspapers, and published records,Working Women into the Borderlandsdemonstrates convincingly how women's labor contributions shaped the development of one of the most dynamic and contentious borderlands in the globe.

Design in the Borderlands
Eleni Kalantidou, "Design in the Borderlands"
English | ISBN: 0415725194 | 2014 | 208 pages | PDF | 2 MB
This book makes a significant contribution to advancing post-geographic understandings of physical and virtual boundaries. It brings together the emergent theory of 'border thinking' with innovative thinking on design, and explores the recent discourse on decoloniality and globalism. From a variety of viewpoints, the topics engaged show how design was historically embedded in the structures of colonial imposition, and how it is implicated in more contemporary settings in the extension of 'epistemological colonialism'.
