Art and Social Justice The Media Connection
Free Download Mike Hajimichael, "Art and Social Justice: The Media Connection"
English | ISBN: 1443871966 | 2015 | 135 pages | PDF | 848 KB
This book is a collection of articles that reflect on various connectivities between art and social justice and media which are pertinent to studying contemporary societies. How different forms of media and art, in the broadest possible meaning of these terms, reflect on, relate to, and campaign for social justice is an important topic to consider as artists, academics and activists. The subject matter of the book is also contextualized, with attention being paid to historical, cultural and communication factors, and with chapters referencing situations and collaborations in Brazil, Cyprus, Greece and South Africa. This is the first time that such a broad range of contexts are being considered together within the pursuit of studies on art and social justice. Furthermore, this book concentrates on how different art forms are manifest, in relation to social justice issues in an ever-changing world mediated by the Internet. How much mobilization happens online through art and media, and how much happens in reality (offline) are issues explored at length with regard to youth and participation in social change.

Art and Life The Story of Samuel Bak
Free Download Art and Life: The Story of Samuel Bak by Ute Ben Yosef
English | October 16, 2023 | ISBN: 1879985462 | 360 pages | MOBI | 309 Mb
Art & Life: The Story of Samuel Bak traces the development of a child prodigy deeply shaped by the catastrophic events of the Shoah, from his early artistic influences to his years in the Vilna Ghetto and Landsberg DP Camp, his formal training in Israel and Paris, and his fruitful art career in Rome, New York, Switzerland, and Boston. Augmenting the rich existing literature on Bak, Art & Life explores-in thoughtful prose and through reproductions of both iconic and rarely seen work created between 1942 and 2022-how he navigated the prevailing art trends of the mid-twentieth century in search of his own pictorial language. It considers the personal, historical, and artistic currents that led Bak, now aged 90, to create an astonishing body of work that bears witness to cataclysmic events, embodies our common humanity of suffering and hope, and poses questions about the repair of the world.

E-BooksArchitectural Aesthetics Appreciating Architecture As An Art (Bloomsbury Aesthetics)

Architectural Aesthetics Appreciating Architecture As An Art (Bloomsbury Aesthetics)
Free Download Architectural Aesthetics: Appreciating Architecture As An Art (Bloomsbury Aesthetics) by Edward Winters
English | May 18, 2023 | ISBN: 1350210994 | 234 pages | MOBI | 5.73 Mb
The fine arts are traditionally seen to have intrinsic value: that is, they are valuable in themselves. But this poses a problem for architecture: its works are designed to serve our purposes, and therefore it is classed as functional. Carving out a new space, Edward Winters argues why architecture is a fine art and finds a place for the fine art of architecture in the cultural environment in which we structure our lives. Winters reconciles intrinsic value, as a fine art, with extrinsic value, as shelter, security and comfort, without collapsing into the modernist conception of Functionalism. He draws on the Apollonian and the Dionysian to resolve the apparent conflict between the two values: the former requiring contemplative, detached reflection, the latter an engaged, embodied entanglement with the festive mood inspired by the immediate situation. Architecture, Winters claims, is to be regarded as functional; but this functionality is subsumed under the intrinsic aesthetic value of living well. Introducing the main positions in the philosophy of architecture through the lens of the timeless argument about what constitutes art, Winters lays out a humanistic view of the medium and extends our understanding of aesthetics and the everyday.
