E-BooksPhilosophical Difference and Advanced Computation in Architectural Theory From Less to More

Philosophical Difference and Advanced Computation in Architectural Theory From Less to More
English | 2021 | ISBN: 0367554275 | 181 pages | True PDF | 13.11 MB
This book presents a new take on the evolution of digital design theories in architecture from modernity to today, as they have been inspired both by contemporary philosophy and the emergence and access to advanced computation. It focuses on how concepts ofdifferencein philosophy transformed architectural design theory and takes on even more significance with the introduction and ubiquitous use of computers within the discipline, changing the architectural design paradigm forever.
Beginning with a presentation of American Pragmatism's push towards process, the book continues on to Husserl's influence on the modern movement, mid-century phenomenology, post-structuralist Derridean exchanges with architects, the Deleuzian influence on the smoothing of form and finally contemporary architectural references to speculative realism.

Architecture defines how we live and work in the world. Designing environments for all people gives an organization the ability to communicate their culture and values in a way that speaks to the idea that "You belong here." In this course, architect Oshoke Abalu outlines her framework for inclusive architectural design, which she calls the Workplace Experience Way, or the WE Way. Each of its four components-the commons, the sanctuary, the neighborhood, and the cocoon-provides a way for architects and companies to define a workplace that provides locations and modalities for everyone in the organization to feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Join Oshoke as she shows how to make the practical and actionable choices to make architectural design more caring, more authentic, and more inclusive.

The Environmental Imagination Technics and Poetics of the Architectural Environment Ed 2
Dean Hawkes, "The Environmental Imagination: Technics and Poetics of the Architectural Environment Ed 2"
English | ISBN: 1138628980 | 2019 | 316 pages | PDF | 117 MB
The Environmental Imagination explores the relationship between tectonics and poetics in environmental design in architecture. Working thematically and chronologically from the eighteenth century to the present day, this book redefines the historiography of environmental design by looking beyond conventional histories to argue that the environments within buildings are a collaboration between poetic intentions and technical means.

E-BooksAcoustics in Architectural Design

Acoustics in Architectural Design
English | 2021 | ISBN: 1785008781 | 160 pages | True EPUB | 29.23 MB
It was not until the beginning of the twentieth century that the physicist Wallace Clement Sabine developed his theory of reverberation, which has remained fundamental to architectural acoustics to this day, and has subsequently been applied to many building types, especially those for the performing arts. Yet the practice of architectural acoustics goes back much further with the impressive designs of the Greeks proving highly influential. This comprehensive book explores the development of acoustics in architectural design from the theatres of Classical Greece, through the early development of opera houses, concert halls and theatres, to the research work of Sabine and his successors and its influence on twentieth- and twenty-first-century buildings. Topics covered include: the fundamentals of acoustics; the influential legacy of the Greeks and Romans; the evolving design of opera houses, theatres and concert halls and, finally, the acoustics of schools, music schools and recital halls.

E-BooksWriting the Materialities of the Past Cities and the Architectural Topography of Historical Imagination

Writing the Materialities of the Past Cities and the Architectural Topography of Historical Imagination
Sam Griffiths, "Writing the Materialities of the Past: Cities and the Architectural Topography of Historical Imagination "
English | ISBN: 1138340243 | 2021 | 266 pages | PDF | 5 MB
Writing the Materialities of the Past offers a close analysis of how the materiality of the built environment has been repressed in historical thinking since the 1950s. Author Sam Griffiths argues that the social theory of cities in this period was characterised by the dominance of socio-economic and linguistic-cultural models, which served to impede our understanding of time-space relationality towards historical events and their narration.

Emerging Practices in Architectural Pedagogy Accommodating an Uncertain Future
Laura Sanderson, "Emerging Practices in Architectural Pedagogy: Accommodating an Uncertain Future "
English | ISBN: 1032004150 | 2021 | 154 pages | PDF | 5 MB
Emerging Practices in Architectural Pedagogy explores the emergent techniques in architectural education that are helping to bridge the gap between the institutional setting and working practice. It demonstrates how teaching and learning can, and should, be directed towards tackling the real-world problems that students will encounter within their professional careers. Architectural and design practitioners are becoming less specialised, they are embracing cross-disciplinary connections and practical problem-solving. Architecture and design schools must align their teaching to reflect this changing world, and evolve from a fact-based acquisition process to a participatory method of learning.

E-BooksScripting Cultures Architectural Design and Programming

Scripting Cultures Architectural Design and Programming
Mark Burry, "Scripting Cultures: Architectural Design and Programming"
English | 2011 | ISBN: 0470746416 | PDF | pages: 274 | 177.5 mb
With scripting, computer programming becomes integral to the digital design process. It provides unique opportunities for innovation, enabling the designer to customise the software around their own predilections and modes of working. It liberates the designer by automating many routine aspects and repetitive activities of the design process, freeing-up the designer to spend more time on design thinking. Software that is modified through scripting offers a range of speculations that are not possible using the software only as the manufacturers intended it to be used. There are also significant economic benefits to automating routines and coupling them with emerging digital fabrication technologies, as time is saved at the front-end and new file-to-factory protocols can be taken advantage of. Most significantly perhaps, scripting as a computing program overlay enables the tool user (designer) to become the new tool maker (software engineer). Though scripting is not new to design, it is only recently that it has started to be regarded as integral to the designer's skill set rather than a technical speciality. Many designers are now aware of its potential, but remain hesitant. This book treats scripting not only as a technical challenge, requiring clear description, guidance and training, but also, and more crucially, answers the question as to why designers should script in the first place, and what the cultural and theoretical implications are.

Crafting History Archiving and the Quest for Architectural Legacy
Albena Yaneva, "Crafting History: Archiving and the Quest for Architectural Legacy "
English | ISBN: 1501752154 | 2020 | 252 pages | EPUB | 44 MB
What constitutes an archive in architecture? What forms does it take? What epistemology does it perform? What kind of craft is archiving? Crafting History provides answers and offers insights on the ontological granularity of the archive and its relationship with architecture as a complex enterprise that starts and ends much beyond the act of building or the life of a creator.
