English | PDF | 2023 | 307 Pages | ISBN : 3031226798 | 18.6 MB
This contributed volume presents relevant examples of socio-environmental research that highlight the challenges and opportunities of using geotechnologies in interdisciplinary settings across the vast, culturally, and environmentally mega-diverse region known as Latin America. While remote sensing has been mostly used for mapping and monitoring physical features, geographic information systems open up opportunities for the integration of socio-economic and environmental data collected through individual and community-based surveys, in-situ measurements, and other participatory research techniques to offer additional analytically grounded power when evaluating socio-environmental processes that shape Latin American landscapes.

E-BooksNot Like Us Immigrants and Minorities in America, 1890-1924 (American Ways)

Not Like Us Immigrants and Minorities in America, 1890-1924 (American Ways)
Free Download Not Like Us: Immigrants and Minorities in America, 1890-1924 (American Ways) By Roger Daniels
1998 | 192 Pages | ISBN: 1566631661 | PDF | 92 MB
In the thirty-five years after 1890, more than 20 million immigrants came to the United States-a greater number than in any comparable period, before or since. They were often greeted in hostile fashion, a reflection of American nativism that by the 1890s was already well developed. In this analytical narrative, Roger Daniels examines the condition of immigrants, Native Americans, and African Americans during a period of supposed progress for American minorities. He shows that they experienced as much repression as advance. Not Like Us opens by considering the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, the hinge on which U.S. immigration policy turned and a symbol of the unfriendly climate toward minorities that would prevail for decades. Mr. Daniels continues the story through the 1890s, the so-called Progressive Era, the opportunities and conflicts arising out of World War I, and the "tribal twenties," when nativism and xenophobia dominated American society. An epilogue points out gains and losses since the 1924 National Origins Act. Throughout Mr. Daniels's focus is on legislation, judicial decisions, mob violence, and the responses of minority groups. The record is scarcely one of unalloyed progress.

Diversity and the Transition to Adulthood in America (Sociology in the Twenty-First Century)
Free Download Ho, "Diversity and the Transition to Adulthood in America (Sociology in the Twenty-First Century) "
English | ISBN: 0520302664 | 2022 | 255 pages | PDF | 7 MB
What does it mean to become an adult in the face of economic uncertainty and increasing racial and immigrant diversity? Nearly half of all young people in the United States are racial minorities, and one in four are from immigrant families. Diversity and the Transition to Adulthood in America offers a comprehensive overview of young people across racial and immigrant groups and their paths through traditional markers of adulthood-from finishing education, working full time, and establishing residential independence to getting married and having children. Taking a look at the diversity of experiences, the authors uncover how the transition to adulthood is increasingly fragmented, especially among those without college degrees. This book will introduce students to immigrant, racial, and ethnic diversity in the transition to adulthood in contemporary America.
