E-BooksThe EU Better Regulation Agenda A Critical Assessment

The EU Better Regulation Agenda A Critical Assessment
Sacha Garben, Inge Govaere, "The EU Better Regulation Agenda: A Critical Assessment"
English | 2018 | pages: 256 | ISBN: 1509917330, 1509941134 | PDF | 4,7 mb
Better Regulation in the EU is a perennial and topical question which has important implications for the future direction of EU law. While actions directed at improving the quality and accessibility of EU regulation are not novel, in recent years the Better Regulation Agenda has significantly affected the structural organisation and day-to-day operation of the EU legislative process. Yet, many questions about the future of the Agenda remain, not least in light of Brexit. Exploring the Better Regulation Agenda (and its relation to the overall EU legal and political order) necessitates an integrated, interdisciplinary approach. This edited volume presents insights from economics, political science and legal scholarship. Furthermore, to allow full understanding, it examines institutional practice, where the Agenda is made and shaped on a daily basis. Hence, the book features contributions from the perspective of the work of the main EU institutions: the European Commission, the Parliament, the Council and the Court of Justice. This results in a seminal overview of the subject, of interest to scholars and practitioners alike.

What Women Want An Agenda for the Women's Movement
Ioana Petra, "What Women Want: An Agenda for the Women's Movement"
English | 2019 | ISBN: 1081128402 | 144 pages | PDF | 2.5 MB
"7000 years" is a selection of radical feminism analyzes, most of them original, written as accessible as possible, with as few bibliographic references as possible. The simplicity of the exposure - a challenge for the author who comes from the scientific academic world - shouldn't have anything to do with the simplicity of the ideas and the conclusions reached by the analyzes stemming from original biological ideas.

E-BooksReframing the Civic University An Agenda for Impact

Reframing the Civic University An Agenda for Impact
Reframing the Civic University: An Agenda for Impact
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031176855 | 245 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 8 MB
This book addresses the need for a comprehensive reappraisal of what it means to be a 'civic university'. For two decades the 'civic' agenda has been driven by a concern with economic impact and regional economic development. While recognising the importance of these aspects of universities' civic influence, there is a need to more comprehensively outline how universities can and should make a difference across a wide spectrum of place-based activity, against a background of intensifying global social and environmental challenges. Rooted in collaborative work by the Civic University Network and community-based partners, the book provides a clear logical framework that universities and their partners can use to examine the extent of their civic activities, but also challenges them to use that framework as a starting point for deeper reflection and engagement. It celebrates the actions universities have taken to respond to communities' needs, and encourages them to think more rigorously about what they can do in the future, and how they can become more accountable to the communities they serve. The book is an essential read for university leaders, academics involved in public engagement, and civic leaders and representatives who wish to develop closer engagement with their local universities.

E-BooksAgenda Crossover The Influence of State Delegations in Congress

Agenda Crossover The Influence of State Delegations in Congress
Sarah A. Treul, "Agenda Crossover: The Influence of State Delegations in Congress"
English | ISBN: 1107183561 | 2017 | 188 pages | PDF | 4 MB
Agenda Crossover updates our understanding of state delegations, exploring how they influence representation and responsiveness in Congress today. The theory of agenda crossover posits that members of the House and Senate have much to gain from monitoring the legislative agendas of other members of the delegation, especially those in the opposite chamber. Treul clearly demonstrates that individual members of delegations still utilize their fellow delegates in order to help them respond to constituents and enhance their own electoral success. It is argued that on certain issues - particularly the ones most relevant to a state's economy - members of Congress are willing to set aside partisan differences and work across the aisle. In this way, these bicameral connections between members of a state delegation - even across party lines - can, at times, trump the power of party in Congress.

E-BooksEnvisioning the Agenda for Water Resources Research in the Twenty-First Century

Envisioning the Agenda for Water Resources Research in the Twenty-First Century
National Research Council, Division on Earth and Life Studies, Water Science and Technology Board, "Envisioning the Agenda for Water Resources Research in the Twenty-First Century"
English | 2001 | ISBN: 0309075661 | PDF | pages: 71 | 3.3 mb
In this century, the United States will be challenged to provide sufficient quantities of high-quality water to its growing population. Water is a limiting resource for human well-being and social development, and projections of population growth as well as changing social values suggest that demands for this resource will increase significantly. These projections have fueled concerns among the public and water resources professionals alike about the adequacy of future water supplies, the sustainability and restoration of aquatic ecosystems, and the viability of our current water resource research programs and our institutional and physical water resource infrastructures. With the goal of outlining a roadmap to guide policymakers, the Water Science and Technology Board (WSTB) held a series of discussions at several of its meetings in 1998-2000 about the future of the nation's water resources and the appropriate research needed to achieve their long-term sustainability. From those discussions, the board produced this report, the objectives of which are to: draw attention to the urgency and complexity of water resources issues facing the United States in the twenty-first century; broadly inform decision makers, researchers, and the public about these issues and challenges; identify needed knowledge and corresponding water resources research areas that should be emphasized immediately and over the long term; and describe ways in which the setting of the water research agenda, the conduct of water research, and investments devoted to such research should be improved in the next few decades. This report discusses major research questions related to the critical water issues that face the nation. It lays out an interdisciplinary research portfolio for the next 20 years and recommends agenda-setting processes that can maximize the nation's ability to prioritize and conduct water resources research.
