E-BooksThinking about Belonging in Youth Studies

Thinking about Belonging in Youth Studies
Thinking about Belonging in Youth Studies (Studies in Childhood and Youth)
English | 2021 | ISBN: 303075118X | 243 Pages | PDF | 2 MB
This book takes a global perspective to address the concept of belonging in youth studies, interrogating its emergence as a reoccurring theme in the literature and elucidating its benefits and shortcomings. While belonging offers new alignments across previously divergent approaches to youth studies, its pervasiveness in the field has led to criticism that it means both everything and nothing and thus requires deeper analysis to be of enduring value. The authors do this work to provide an accessible, scholarly account of how youth studies uses belonging by focusing on transitions, participation, citizenship and mobility to address its theoretical and historical underpinnings and its prevalence in youth policy and research.

E-BooksThe Legends of the Pyramids Myths and Misconceptions about Ancient Egypt

The Legends of the Pyramids Myths and Misconceptions about Ancient Egypt
English | 2021 | ISBN: 1684351480 | 234 pages | True PDF | 6.42 MB
Could the Great Pyramid of Giza be a repository of ancient magical knowledge? Or perhaps evidence of a vanished pre-Ice Age civilization?
Misinformation and myths have attached themselves to the Egyptian pyramids since ancient Greece and Rome. While many Americans believe that the pyramids were built by aliens, archaeologists understand that the Giza pyramids were built by the pharaohs of the Fourth Dynasty around 2450 BCE. So why is there such a disconnect between scholarly opinion and the popular view of Egypt? In The Legends of the Pyramids, Jason Colavito takes us back to Late Antique Egypt, where the replacement of polytheism with Christianity gave rise to local efforts to rewrite the stories of Egyptian history in the image of the Bible. When the Arab conquest absorbed Egypt into the Islamic community, these stories then passed into Islamic historiography and reentered the West.

E-BooksAll about women All about women Damon Salvatore

All about women All about women Damon Salvatore
All about women: All about women Damon Salvatore by Damon Salvatore
English | February 26, 2021 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B08XLGGCJS | 200 pages | EPUB | 0.27 Mb
The current millennium is drawing to a close and it is time to tell the truth about women:We do not like men who neglect us.We are not absolute dumb heads in mathematics and technology. We do not seek to trap a man in a marriage trap (marriage brings much more comfort to a man's life than to ours). We do not become more sexually anxious with age (we lose partners, not libido). We do not lose our composure when we go shopping (after all, we spend money on food and baby underwear, but mostly men buy yachts and cars). Finally, we do not become insane during the premenstrual period (studies have shown that hormonally we approach men more at this time than on other days of the month!).It's time to turn to the facts. After all, myths tend to be confusing. Knowledge helps us to understand the past and prepare for the future. Myths make us feel hopeless. Knowledge gives the right to choose. And we use choice more than any other generation of women at all times - the choice we can offer our daughters:We can take advantage of what our grandmothers were deprived of: contact lenses, plastic surgery, contraceptives, technologies to get pregnant. We can make a career in such areas as economics, legislation, aeronautics, computing. And, of course, we can choose the lifestyle that we like best:We no longer experience empty nest syndrome. When the nest is empty, we can either arrange it, or immerse ourselves in our own world. We are already in a mid-life crisis. The symptoms of menopause are just minor inconveniences; they do not turn into tragedy. We already use hormonal agents not only to prevent pregnancy, but also to get pregnant. (Yes, it is - and at forty-five you can experience not only hot flushes, but also morning sickness, as happens during pregnancy.) We are no longer those "little girls" who are waiting for a "kind" or "sweet" daddy. We are self-sufficient women who were born in the "baby boomer" era - that is, during the peak of fertility: no less, about seven million "babies" born then in 1996 will be middle-aged women! And although it has always been customary to say that in fact we do not want neither the truth, nor freedom of choice, nor access to information, because we do not dare to accept the responsibility that necessarily lies behind all this, my research does not support this statement. Women most often answer "I don't care" when it comes to trivial things - that is, when, for example, they are asked: "What movie do you want to watch?" or "Where should we go for dinner?" The reason is not that women rate themselves low. The reason is fatigue. However, when a lot depends on the adoption of this or that decision, then we make a choice and are not afraid of responsibility. Many women say that they just need to make choices in order to avoid stress. We do not have problems with self-esteem, which are often attributed to us. Study after study shows that when self-esteem falls sharply, it is more often a consequence of, rather than a cause, of how we feel about ourselves. We can say for sure that we do not suffer from dissatisfaction with our appearance, or from our own inability to cope with stress (although, I admit, sometimes we adore endlessly talking about how we should improve ourselves).Unfortunately, all this does not mean that currently there is no discrimination against women. Girls say over and over again that they are treated differently from boys; working women still run up against the "glass ceiling", receiving less pay than men for performing (sometimes even better) similar work. And the reason for such discrimination lies not in the low self-esteem of women. To say that women are to blame for everything is to add another insult to our address. Are you wondering why there are so many myths about women, so much psychologically based nonsense? Well, there are reasons for that.

About Britain A Journey of Seventy Years and 1,345 Miles
English | 2021 | ISBN: 1472937260 | 385 pages | True PDF | 5.98 MB
A charming new travelogue retracing the thirteen original routes of the 1951 Festival of Britain guides "About Britain"
About Britain is an entirely fresh approach to travel writing. In 1951, the Festival of Britain published a series of thirteen short guides that they dubbed 'handbooks for the explorer'. Their aim was to get people on 'the roads and the by-roads' to see Britain as a 'living country'. Armed with these guidebooks, Tim Cole takes to the roads again to find out what looks the same and what looks different from that moment when Britain's growing car-owning population set out in 1951. The result is a book that combines travelogue and reflections on our changing relationship with the car with a broader social, cultural and landscape history of post-war Britain.

Talk about Faith: How Debate and Conversation Shape Belief by Stephen Pihlaja
English | Jan 31, 2021 | ISBN: 110847599X | 200 pages | PDF | 1 MB
How do people of faith use language to position themselves, and their beliefs and practices, in the contemporary world? This pioneering and original study looks closely at how Christians and Muslims talk to people inside and outside of their own communities about what they think are the right things to believe and do. From debates, to podcasts and YouTube videos, the book covers a range of engaging texts and contexts, showing how doctrine and beliefs are not nearly as fixed and static as we might think, and that people are prone to change what they say they believe, depending on who they are talking to. From abortion, to hell, to whether it's okay to sell alcohol, Pihlaja investigates how Christians and Muslims struggle with different elements of their own faith, and try to make decisions about what to do when there are so many different voices to believe.
