The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step? Or, in this case, with a single Instagram post. After stumbling across an image depicting the horrific impact on an innocent sea turtle of humanity's dependence on plastic in a throwaway culture, Carly Tizzano sets out on a year-long journey to understand the true cost of modern living on the environment. In the process, she discovers that her lifestyle and personal choices impact far more than just sea life. Her investigation makes her even more determined to redefine her values, personal habits, and her overall relationship with the planet. In this honest treatise of the power and pitfalls of her year-long pursuit of sustainable living, Carly details the latest research and statistics, and shares the tools, tactics, and methods she employed in her attempt to protect the environment and live out her personal values. Come along with her on this journey as she experiments with new products and re-discovers old ones, establishes new habits, redirects her mindset, and discovers that while sustainability may look different for each of us, it's a goal and a direction that all of us can move towards.

Author: Jordan Raynor
Narrator: Jordan Raynor

From a leading voice in the faith and work movement and bestselling author comes the revolutionary message that God sees our daily work-in whatever form it takes-with far more value than we ever imagined. Does your work matter for eternity? Sadly, most believers don't think so. Sure, the 1 percent of the time they spend sharing the gospel with their co-workers matters. But most Christians view the other 99 percent of their time as meaning very little in the grand scheme of things. But that's not how God sees it. Jordan Raynor, a leading voice in the faith and work movement and bestselling author, offers a revolutionary message about how our daily jobs-from baristas and entrepreneurs to stay-at-home parent and coaches-have intrinsic and eternal value. In The Sacredness of Secular Work, he reveals unexpected ways our work truly matters. Combining research, Scripture, and storytelling, Jordan Raynor proves that work, in its diverse forms, is one of the primary activities that brings God delight. This biblical perspective will set you free to pursue your passions and skills and-perhaps for the first time-experience the Creator's delight in the work of your hands.

E-BooksThe Righteous and People of Conscience of the Armenian Genocide [Audiobook]

Free Download The Righteous and People of Conscience of the Armenian Genocide (Audiobook)
English | ASIN: B0CS3XZ5DS | 2024 | 14 hours and 37 minutes | M4B@64 kbps | 415 MB
Author: Gérard Dédéyan, Ago Demirdjian, Nabil Saleh
Narrator: Nigel Patterson

This book tells the stories of the Muslims, Christians, Jews and others who made a courageous stand against the mass slaughter of Ottoman Armenians in 1915, the first modern genocide. Foreigners and Ottomans alike ran considerable risks to bear witness and rescue victims, sometimes sacrificing their lives. Diplomats, humanitarians, missionaries, lawyers and other visitors to the Empire stood up, including Tolstoy's daughter, Alexandra; Raphael Lemkin, the jurist who first established genocide as an international crime; and the polar explorer Fridtjof Nansen, who recognized and relieved the plight of stateless Armenian refugees. Ottoman subjects-from officials and officers to ordinary townspeople and villagers-faced near-certain death for their entire family by resisting orders and helping Armenians. Unlike the Righteous of the Holocaust, these heroes have been systematically ignored and erased-a major injustice. Based on fresh research and hoping to repay a moral debt to Ottoman Muslims who braved everything to rescue the authors' forebears, this book is an important, moving testament to a grievously overlooked aspect of the Armenian tragedy.

In terms of geopolitics, perhaps the most seminal event of the Middle Ages was the successful Ottoman siege of Constantinople in 1453. The city had been an imperial capital as far back as the 4th century, when Constantine the Great shifted the power center of the Roman Empire there, effectively establishing two almost equally powerful halves of antiquity's greatest empire. Constantinople would continue to serve as the capital of the Byzantine Empire even after the Western half of the Roman Empire collapsed in the late 5th century. Naturally, the Ottoman Empire would also use Constantinople as the capital of its empire after their conquest effectively ended the Byzantine Empire, and thanks to its strategic location, it has been a trading center for years and remains one today under the Turkish name of Istanbul.

The First Rule of Mastery Stop Worrying About What People Think of You [Audiobook]

English | ASIN: B0CKWLR28B | 2024 | M4B@64 kbps | ~05:03:00 | 141 MB
High-performance psychologist Michael Gervais presents a groundbreaking guide for overcoming what may be the single greatest constrictor of human potential: our fear of people's opinions (FOPO).
FOPO shows up almost everywhere in our lives-and the consequences are great. When we let FOPO take control, we play it safe and small because we're afraid of what will happen on the other side of critique. When challenged, we surrender our viewpoint. We trade in authenticity for approval. We please rather than provoke. We chase the dreams of others rather than our own. But it doesn't have to be this way.
In The First Rule of Mastery, Michael Gervais shows us that the key to leading a high-performance life is to redirect our attention from the world outside us to the world inside us. He reveals the mental skills and practices we need to overcome FOPO-the same skills he's taught to the top performers in the world, including sports MVPs, world-renowned artists and musicians, and Fortune 100 leaders and teams. Filled with fascinating stories from the worlds of sports and business, leading-edge science, and insights from the frontier of human performance, The First Rule of Mastery is a much-needed wake-up call that when we give more value to other people's opinions than we do our own, we live life on their terms, not ours.

Can you imagine how the world would be different today if there had been no Enlightenment era? The Age of Enlightenment, which lasted throughout the 18th century, brought about fundamental changes in people's thinking and transformed the entire fabric of society. Even ordinary people began to question their entrenched beliefs and dogmas. They wanted education, justice, freedom, and progress. They struggled to eliminate despotic rulers and desired to be governed by democratically elected representatives. But how did this fundamental shift in thinking occur in a relatively short period? And who were the great thinkers and philosophers of that era who dared to go against the established authority of the church and the power of the autocrats? Are you curious about how the Enlightenment influenced the French and American revolutions? If so, this audiobook holds the answers you seek.

Author: Sabrina Strings
Narrator: Janice Lynn Sykes

From Playboy to Jay-Z, the racial origins of toxic masculinity and its impact on women, especially Black and "insufficiently white" women . More men than ever are refusing loving partnerships and commitment, and instead seeking out "situationships." When these men deign to articulate what they are looking for in a steady partner, they'll often rely on superficial norms of attractiveness rooted in whiteness and anti-Blackness. Connecting the past to the present, sociologist Sabrina Strings argues that following the Civil Rights movement and the integration of women during the Second Wave Feminist movement, men aimed to hold on to their power by withholding love and commitment, a basic tenet of white supremacy and male domination, that served to manipulate all women. From pornography to hip hop, women-especially Black and "insufficiently white" women-were presented as gold diggers, props for masturbation, and side-pieces. Using historical research, personal stories, and critical analysis, Strings argues that the result is fuccboism, the latest incarnation of toxic masculinity. This work shows that men are not innately "toxic." Nor do they hate love, commitment, or sex. Instead, men across race have been working a new code to effectively deny loving partnerships to women who are not pliant, slim, and white as a new mode of male domination.
