Mathematicians under the Nazis
Free Download Sanford L. Segal, "Mathematicians under the Nazis"
English | ISBN: 0691164630 | 2014 | 568 pages | PDF | 22 MB
Contrary to popular belief-and despite the expulsion, emigration, or death of many German mathematicians-substantial mathematics was produced in Germany during 1933-1945. In this landmark social history of the mathematics community in Nazi Germany, Sanford Segal examines how the Nazi years affected the personal and academic lives of those German mathematicians who continued to work in Germany.

Mathematical Programming and Control Theory
Free Download Mathematical Programming and Control Theory by B. D. Craven
English | PDF | 1978 | 173 Pages | ISBN : 0412155001 | 32.9 MB
In a mathematical programming problem, an optimum (maxi mum or minimum) of a function is sought, subject to con straints on the values of the variables. In the quarter century since G. B. Dantzig introduced the simplex method for linear programming, many real-world problems have been modelled in mathematical programming terms. Such problems often arise in economic planning - such as scheduling industrial production or transportation - but various other problems, such as the optimal control of an interplanetary rocket, are of similar kind. Often the problems involve nonlinear func tions, and so need methods more general than linear pro gramming. This book presents a unified theory of nonlinear mathe matical programming. The same methods and concepts apply equally to 'nonlinear programming' problems with a finite number of variables, and to 'optimal control' problems with e. g. a continuous curve (i. e. infinitely many variables). The underlying ideas of vector space, convex cone, and separating hyperplane are the same, whether the dimension is finite or infinite; and infinite dimension makes very little difference to the proofs. Duality theory - the various nonlinear generaliz ations of the well-known duality theorem of linear program ming - is found relevant also to optimal control, and the , PREFACE Pontryagin theory for optimal control also illuminates finite dimensional problems. The theory is simplified, and its applicability extended, by using the geometric concept of convex cones, in place of coordinate inequalities.

E-BooksMathematical Problems

Mathematical Problems
Free Download David Hilbert, "Mathematical Problems"
English | ASIN : B093XFLBW4 | 2021 | pages | EPUB | 772 KB
'Mathematical Problems' is a book derived from a lecture given by David Hilbert, a German mathematician and one of the most influential mathematicians of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Hilbert's address begins with the following: "Who of us would not be glad to lift the veil behind which the future lies hidden; to cast a glance at the next advances of our science and at the secrets of its development during future centuries? What particular goals will there be toward which the leading mathematical spirits of coming generations will strive? What new methods and new facts in the wide and rich field of mathematical thought will the new centuries disclose?"

E-BooksMathematical Models for Biological Pattern Formation

Mathematical Models for Biological Pattern Formation
Free Download Mathematical Models for Biological Pattern Formation by Philip K. Maini, Hans G. Othmer
English | PDF | 2001 | 327 Pages | ISBN : 0387951032 | 32.2 MB
This 121st IMA volume, entitled MATHEMATICAL MODELS FOR BIOLOGICAL PATTERN FORMATION is the first of a new series called FRONTIERS IN APPLICATION OF MATHEMATICS. The FRONTIERS volumes are motivated by IMA pro grams and workshops, but are specially planned and written to provide an entree to and assessment of exciting new areas for the application of mathematical tools and analysis. The emphasis in FRONTIERS volumes is on surveys, exposition and outlook, to attract more mathematicians and other scientists to the study of these areas and to focus efforts on the most important issues, rather than papers on the most recent research results aimed at an audience of specialists.

Mathematical Modelling of Biosystems
Free Download Mathematical Modelling of Biosystems by Rubem P. Mondaini, Panos M. Pardalos
English | PDF | 2008 | 314 Pages | ISBN : 3540767835 | 5.3 MB
This volume is an interdisciplinary book which introduces, in a very readable way, state-of-the-art research in the fundamental topics of mathematical modelling of Biosystems. In short, the book offers an overview of mathematical and computational modelling of biosystems including biological phenomena in general. There is also a special introduction to Protein Physics which aims to explain the all-or-none first order phase transitions from native to denatured states.

Mathematical Gnostics
Free Download Mathematical Gnostics by Pavel Kovanic
English | February 8, 2023 | ISBN: 1138339237 | 342 pages | PDF | 14 Mb
The book describes the theoretical principles of nonstatistical methods of data analysis but without going deep into complex mathematics. The emphasis is laid on presentation of solved examples of real data either from authors' laboratories or from open literature. The examples cover wide range of applications such as quality assurance and quality control, critical analysis of experimental data, comparison of data samples from various sources, robust linear and nonlinear regression as well as various tasks from financial analysis. The examples are useful primarily for chemical engineers including analytical/quality laboratories in industry, designers of chemical and biological processes.

Mathematical Geography in the Eighteenth Century Euler, Lagrange and Lambert (2024)
Free Download Renzo Caddeo, Athanase Papadopoulos, "Mathematical Geography in the Eighteenth Century: Euler, Lagrange and Lambert"
English | 2022 | ISBN: 3031095693, 3031095723 | PDF | pages: 437 | 10.6 mb
This volume presents the beautiful memoirs of Euler, Lagrange and Lambert on geography, translated into English and put into perspective through explanatory and historical essays as well as commentaries and mathematical notes. These works had a major impact on the development of the differential geometry of surfaces and they deserve to be studied, not only as historical documents, but most of all as a rich source of ideas.
