E-BooksFoundations of Economics A Christian View

Foundations of Economics A Christian View
Foundations of Economics: A Christian View By Shawn Ritenour
2010 | 564 Pages | ISBN: 1556357249 | EPUB | 2 MB
Foundations of Economics: A Christian View is an introduction to economics from an explicitly Christian perspective. It maintains that there is no conflict between Christian doctrine and economic science, properly understood. Therefore, Foundations of Economics has three goals: to demonstrate that the foundations of economic laws are derived from a Christian understanding of nature and humanity; to explain basic economic principles of the market economy and apply them to various economic problems, such as poverty and economic development; and to show the relationship between Christian ethics and economic policy. Foundations of Economics: A Christian View accomplishes these goals by rooting the fundamental principles of human action in the Christian doctrines of creation and humanity, and integrating them with the Christian ethic of private property. This volume explains the relevance of economics for fulfilling the cultural mandate set forth in the first two chapters of Genesis, by demonstrating how economics can help us in our task to be fruitful and multiply and have dominion over the earth, without spoiling creation, starving to death, or descending into a barbaric struggle for survival.

E-BooksForeign Jack Tars The British Navy and Transnational Seafarers during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars

Foreign Jack Tars The British Navy and Transnational Seafarers during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars
Foreign Jack Tars: The British Navy and Transnational Seafarers during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars
English | 2023 | ISBN: 100919979X | 313 Pages | PDF | 4.31 MB
The British Royal Navy of the French Wars (1793-1815) is an enduring national symbol, but we often overlook the tens of thousands of foreign seamen who contributed to its operations. Foreign Jack Tars presents the first in-depth study of their employment in the Navy during this crucial period. Based on sources from across Britain, Europe, and the US, and blending quantitative, social, cultural, economic, and legal history, it challenges the very notions of 'Britishness' and 'foreignness'. The need for manpower during wartime meant that naval recruitment regularly bypassed cultural prejudice, and even legal status. Temporarily outstripped by practical considerations, these categories thus revealed their artificiality. The Navy was not simply an employer in the British maritime market, but a nodal point of global mobility. Exposing the inescapable transnational dimensions of a quintessentially national institution, the book highlights the instability of national boundaries, and the compromises and contradictions underlying the power of modern states.

E-BooksEvangelical Exodus Evangelical Seminarians and Their Paths to Rome

Evangelical Exodus Evangelical Seminarians and Their Paths to Rome
Evangelical Exodus: Evangelical Seminarians and Their Paths to Rome By Douglas M. Beaumont
2016 | 286 Pages | ISBN: 1621640426 | EPUB | 1 MB
Over the course a single decade, dozens of students, alumni, and professors from a conservative, Evangelical seminary in North Carolina (Southern Evangelical Seminary) converted to Catholicism. These conversions were notable as they occurred among people with varied backgrounds and motivations-many of whom did not share their thoughts with one another until this book was produced. Even more striking is that the seminary's founder, long-time president, and popular professor, Dr. Norman Geisler, had written two full-length books and several scholarly articles criticizing Catholicism from an Evangelical point of view. What could have led these seminary students, and even some of their professors, to walk away from their Evangelical education and risk losing their jobs, ministries, and even family and friends, to embrace the teachings they once rejected as false or even heretical? Speculation over this phenomenon has been rampant and often dismissive and misguided-leading to more confusion than understanding. The stories of these converts are now being told by those who know them best-the converts themselves. They discuss the primary issues they had to face: the nature of the biblical canon, the identification of Christian orthodoxy, and the problems with the Protestant doctrines of sola scriptura ("scripture alone") and sola fide ("faith alone")
