A glimpse to the origins of slavery on the Iberian Peninsula and its evolution in the New World. Includes a visit to the sugar plantations in Louisiana and Texas.

The history of the Civil War in the trans-Mississippi West. Includes the border war between Missouri and Kansas; the battle at Wilson's Creek; and the role of Black troops in the Union Army.

Chapter 6: Go West
Stories of the diverse people who settled in the American West. Includes Black Spanish explorers and conquistadores; the Governor of Alta California and the Buffalo Soldiers.
