Emissions Trading as a Policy Instrument: Evaluation and Prospects By
2015 | 304 Pages | ISBN: 0262029286 | PDF | 10 MB
Empirical and theoretical perspectives on the first two phases of the European Emissions Trading Scheme, the largest cap-and-trade market established so far.Emissions trading schemes figure prominently among policy instruments used to tackle the problem of climate change, and the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS), begun in 2005, is the largest cap-and-trade market so far established. In the EU ETS, firms regulated by the scheme are provided with emissions allowances (each a one-time right to emit one ton of greenhouse gases) and can sell their unused allowances to firms that have higher rates of emissions. In this volume, leading economists offer empirical and theoretical perspectives on the early phases of the EU ETS implementation. The contributors discuss the features of the EU ETS market; and regulatory uncertainty stemming from rule changes; the political economy context of the trading scheme, including allowance allocation and the influence of lobbying on abatement decisions; the coexistence of such overlapping instruments for climate policy as pricing and taxation; the relationship between spot and futures markets for allowances, and firms' responses to various features of the EU ETS, including fluctuating allowance prices, free allocation, and links to the Kyoto process. They show that, although the basic theory behind emissions permit markets is straightforward, design features, market structure, and interactions with other policy instruments can influence the efficiency of the scheme.ContributorsNathan Braun, A. Dangerous Instrument: Political Polarization and US Civil-Military Relations by Michael A. Robinson
English | December 8th, 2022 | ISBN: 0197611567 | 312 pages | True EPUB | 2.21 MB
As increasingly contentious politics in the United States raise concerns over the "politicization" of traditionally non-partisan institutions, many have turned their attention to how the American military has been-and will be-affected by this trend. Since a low point following the end of the Vietnam War, the U.S. military has experienced a dramatic reversal of public opinion, becoming one of the most trusted institutions in American society. However, this trend is more complicated than it appears: just as individuals have become fonder of their military, they have also become increasingly polarized from one another along partisan lines. The result is a new political environment rife with challenges to traditional civil-military norms.

Shucheng Wang, "Law as an Instrument: Sources of Chinese Law for Authoritarian Legality "
English | ISBN: 1009152564 | 2022 | 310 pages | PDF | 3 MB
How can the law be employed pragmatically to facilitate development and underpin illiberal principles? The case of contemporary China shows that the law plays an increasingly important role in the country's illiberal approach to both domestic and China-related global affairs, which has posed intellectual challenges in understanding it with reference to conventional, Western legal concepts and theories. This book provides a systematic exploration of the sources of Chinese law as pragmatically reconfigured in context, aiming to fill the gap between written and practised law. In combination with fieldwork investigations, it conceptualises various formal and informal laws, including the Constitution, congressional statutes, supreme court interpretations, judicial documents, guiding cases and judicial precedents. Moreover, it engages a theoretical analysis of legal instrumentalism, illuminating how and why the law works as an instrument for authoritarian legality in China, with international reflections on other comparable regimes.

Digital techniques electronic instrument systems. Module 05 for B2 Level Certification By James W. Wasson
2015 | 174 Pages | ISBN: 1941144179 | PDF | 7 MB
Today's aircraft increasingly rely on digital technology and complex electronic systems, not just for instrumentation, navigation, and communications, but even for flight controls, system monitoring, maintenance planning, and more and more. Fiber optics and fly-by-wire is no longer the exception, but the rule. It is no longer limited to military, but now the basis of private and commercial aircraft both large and small. This module presents the B2 or CertTEC rated avionics technician with what he or she needs to know for both a understanding of these systems and the ability to work around them in an efficient and safe manner. A more basic version of this book, Module 5/B1 is also available from Aircraft Technical Book Company which covers these topics to the more limited depth required for the B1 mechanical technician and or engineer.
