The Cost–Effectiveness of 22 Approaches for Raising Student Achievement
Free Download Stuart S Yeh, "The Cost-Effectiveness of 22 Approaches for Raising Student Achievement "
English | ISBN: 1617354031 | 2011 | 246 pages | PDF | 2 MB
As a consequence of the federal "No Child Left Behind" (NCLB) law, there is tremendous pressure on school principals, teachers, school superintendents, district staff, state departments of education and governors to maximize the increase in student achievement that is obtained with every dollar of expenditure. Currently, teachers are forced to rely on extremely inefficient approaches that take enormous amounts of time, both during the school day and throughout the K-12 learning years. This is experienced in terms of the reduced time that is available to teach subjects other than math and reading, as schools resort to double periods of math, double periods of reading, and enormous amounts of remedial instruction that directly reduce the time available for other subjects including science, art, and music. In contrast, this book suggests that student achievement may be increased in a way that is not only cost-effective in dollar terms, but efficient in the sense that it does not rely on unusual investments in the time required to obtain results. The book draws upon a wealth of cost-effectiveness data to dispel common notions about "what works" in addressing the achievement gap: increased expenditure per pupil, charter schools, voucher programs, increased educational accountability, class size reduction, comprehensive school reform, increased teacher salaries, more selective teacher recruitment, the use of "value-added" methods to measure and reward teacher performance, the use of National Board teacher certification to identify high-performing teachers, and a host of other approaches.

E-BooksThe Effectiveness of Environmental Law (3)

The Effectiveness of Environmental Law (3)
Sandrine Maljean-Dubois, "The Effectiveness of Environmental Law (3) "
English | ISBN: 1780684673 | 2017 | 348 pages | PDF | 4 MB
This book is the third volume in the European Environmental Law Forum (EELF) Book Series. The EELF is a non-profit initiative of environmental law scholars and practitioners from across Europe aiming to support intellectual exchange on the development and implementation of international, European and national environmental law in Europe. One of the activities of the EELF is an annual conference. This book bundles 15 contributions from those presented during the Third EELF Conference in Aix-en-Provence, hosted by the CERIC, Aix-Marseille University, from 2 to 4 September 2015.The central topic of the book is the effectiveness of environmental law. Indeed the impressive developments in environmental law in recent years have not always been matched by corresponding improvements in environmental quality. The threats to our environment and, by extension, to human health have never been so numerous or so serious. Paradoxically, the effectiveness of environmental law has been a long-neglected issue. This book offers a fruitful and stimulating dialogue between practitioners and academics, from varied countries and varied fields, combining empirical and theoretical approaches to the topic. Suggestions for improving the effectiveness of environmental law range from classic yet still necessary approaches working within criminal and administrative channels, such as civil sanctions, liability rules and strengthening the regulatory structure and the role of judges, to more innovative methods involving public participation, collaborative or hybrid governance and private environmental enforcement.

Eco-Effectiveness of Modular Products and Fleets within the Automotive Industry
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3658405937 | 228 pages | True PDF,EPUB | 34.67 MB
The automotive industry is facing the challenge of reducing its environmental impact to comply with stricter fleet emission regulations. Still, an OEM's contribution to the targets of the Paris Agreement must consider the entire life cycle of a vehicle, surpassing the targets of the current legislations which focusses on the use stage only. This work presents a concept that identifies the ideal configuration of a modular product system like a vehicle to meet a limited environmental impact at the lowest life cycle costs along the entire life cycle. This optimization is based on the ideal combination of modular product components which are selected by an algorithm based on graph theory.
