Managing the Wealth of Nations Political Economies of Change in Preindustrial Europe
Free Download Philipp Robinson Rössner, "Managing the Wealth of Nations: Political Economies of Change in Preindustrial Europe"
English | ISBN: 1529211220 | 2023 | 300 pages | PDF | 26 MB
'Commerce and manufactures gradually introduced order and good government,' wrote Adam Smith in his Wealth of Nations, 'and with them, the liberty and security of individuals.' However, Philipp Robinson Rössner shows how, when looked at in the face of history, it has usually been the other way around. This book follows the development of capitalism from the Middle Ages through the industrial revolution to the modern day, casting new light on the areas where premodern political economies of growth and development made a difference. It shows how order and governance provided the foundation for prosperity, growth and the wealth of nations. Written for scholars and students of economic history, this is a pioneering new study that debunks the neoliberal origin myth of how capitalism came into the world.

The notion of 'clickbait' speaks to the intersection of money, technology, and desire, suggesting a cunning ruse to profit from unsavoury inclinations of one kind or another. Clickbait capitalism pursues the idea that the entire contemporary economy is just such a ruse; an elaborate exercise in psychological capture and release.

Low Carbon Transition in Emerging Economies
Free Download Erkin Erdogan, "Low Carbon Transition in Emerging Economies "
English | ISBN: 1032393521 | 2023 | 194 pages | EPUB | 8 MB
Many emerging economies are on the front line of the devastating impacts of global warming such as desertification and extreme weather events, but, for historical and political reasons, they follow ambitious growth targets with seemingly little concern for climate change and environmental degradation. Focusing on the case of Turkey, this book investigates the economic impacts of possible climate change policies to help meet the required mitigation targets and transition to a low carbon economy. In order to reach net-zero targets by 2050 in compliance with the Paris Agreement, Turkey must introduce policies that promote low carbon investments, green jobs and low carbon employment more broadly. This book explores the empirical evidence on the effectiveness of a carbon pricing mechanism by developing an econometric vector autoregression (VAR) model to analyse key data sets. This time series analysis provides insights on a macro level, dealing with aggregate data in which the role and complexity of micro interferences disappear, allowing for the discovery of patterns and changes over time. Thus, the book contributes to the literature on methodology by arguing that time series analysis is one of the best-fitting approaches to estimate possible impacts of climate change policies on an economy. Additionally, the results of the model are compared and contrasted with similar data from other emerging economies to identify potential common policy solutions between countries at a similar stage of development. This book is vital reading for researchers interested in climate policy, the economics of climate change and environmental economics.

E-BooksEconomies of Scale Financialization and Contemporary North American Poetry

Economies of Scale Financialization and Contemporary North American Poetry
Free Download Economies of Scale: Financialization and Contemporary North American Poetry by Ann Keniston
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 150 Pages | ISBN : 3031393406 | 6.3 MB
This book offers the first sustained study of the ways 21st century North American poems engage with financialization. It argues that recent poems about economics not only discuss but enact concerns with containment and agency essential to the contemporary financialized economy by manipulating the seemingly old-fashioned figures of synecdoche (the representation of the whole by the part) and prosopopeia or personification. Its four body chapters offer in-depth readings of the work of eleven formally, culturally, and thematically diverse contemporary U.S. and Canadian poets who variously consider labor, consumerism, debt, and the derivative form; the Coda reads several recent poems about reparations in terms of an emerging tendency to emphasize the historical, racialized, and ethical contexts of contemporary economics. As the book explores financialization's representation in recent poetry, it redresses arguments that poetry is irrelevant to contemporary culture.
