E-BooksTo Save Heaven and Earth Rescue in the Rwandan Genocide

To Save Heaven and Earth Rescue in the Rwandan Genocide
Free Download Jennie E. Burnet, "To Save Heaven and Earth: Rescue in the Rwandan Genocide"
English | ISBN: 1501767119 | 2023 | 312 pages | PDF | 4 MB
In To Save Heaven and Earth, Jennie E. Burnet considers people who risked their lives in the 1994 Rwandan genocide of Tutsi to try and save those targeted for killing. Many genocide perpetrators were not motivated by political ideology, ethnic hatred, or prejudice. By shifting away from these classic typologies of genocide studies and focusing instead on hundreds of thousands of discrete acts that unfold over time, Burnet highlights the ways that complex decisions and behaviors emerge in the social, political, and economic processes that constitute a genocide.

E-BooksThe Story of Earth's Climate in 25 Discoveries How Scientists Found the Connections Between Climate and Life

The Story of Earth's Climate in 25 Discoveries How Scientists Found the Connections Between Climate and Life
Free Download The Story of Earth's Climate in 25 Discoveries: How Scientists Found the Connections Between Climate and Life by Donald R. Prothero
English | March 12th, 2024 | ISBN: 0231203586 | 480 pages | True EPUB | 42.91 MB
Over 4.5 billion years, Earth's climate has transformed tremendously. Before our more temperate recent past, the planet swung from one extreme to another-from a greenhouse world of sweltering temperatures and high sea levels to a "snowball earth" in which glaciers reached the equator. During this history, we now know, living things and the climate have always influenced and even shaped each other. But the climate has never changed as rapidly or as drastically as it has since the Industrial Revolution.

E-BooksThe Earth's Plasmasphere A CLUSTER and IMAGE Perspective

The Earth's Plasmasphere A CLUSTER and IMAGE Perspective
Free Download The Earth's Plasmasphere: A CLUSTER and IMAGE Perspective by F. Darrouzet, J. Keyser, V. Pierrard
English | PDF (True) | 2009 | 295 Pages | ISBN : 144191322X | 20.6 MB
James L. Burch·C. Philippe Escoubet Originally published in the journal Space Science Reviews, Volume 145, Nos 1-2, 1-2. DOI: 10. 1007/s11214-009-9532-7 © Springer Science+Business Media B. V. 2009 The IMAGE and CLUSTER spacecraft have revolutionized our understanding of the inner magnetosphere and in particular the plasmasphere. Before launch, the plasmasphere was not a prime objective of the CLUSTER mission. In fact, CLUSTER might not have ever observed this region because a few years before the CLUSTER launch (at the beginning of the 1990s), it was proposed to raise the perigee of the orbit to 8 Earth radii to make multipoint measu- ments in the current disruption region in the tail. Because of ground segment constraints, this proposal did not materialize. In view of the great depth and breadth of plasmaspheric research and numerous papers published on the plasmasphere since the CLUSTER launch, this choice certainly was a judicious one. The fact that the plasmasphere was one of the prime targets in the inner magnetosphere for IMAGE provided a unique opportunity to make great strides using the new and comp- mentary measurements of the two missions. IMAGE, with sensitive EUV cameras, could for the rst time make global images of the plasmasphere and show its great variability d- ing storm-time. CLUSTER, with four-spacecraft, could analyze in situ spatial and temporal structures at the plasmapause that are particularly important in such a dynamic system.

E-BooksRare–Earth Elements Solid State Materials

Rare–Earth Elements Solid State Materials
Free Download Rare-Earth Elements: Solid State Materials: Chemical, Optical and Magnetic Properties
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3110680815 | 304 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 84 MB
When the author began working on phosphors based on rare-earth elements, he lacked an introductory textbook that explained the fundamental chemistry, basic optical properties, and magnetic characteristics of lanthanide elements. This book provides a concise overview of the rare-earth elements and is divided into two parts. In the first part, the reader receives an overview of solid-state chemistry and fundamental physical properties of these elements. Key topics of the first part include the separation chemistry of lanthanides, their chemical behaviour and physical properties. Then relevant compound classes are illustrated, crystal structures are systematically explained. The second part focuses on the optical and magnetic properties on relevant examples, also discussing many applications. Students and researchers new to the topic of "Rare-Earth Elements" receive a comprehensive introduction to understand basic optical and magnetic properties and incentives for deeper studies.
